Harmony's birth story
Harmony Marlene was born on Thursday, June 17 at 9:10am. It was a scheduled C section. Everything went really pretty smoothly. They took awhile putting in my spinal but I didn't have any issues with it being uneven like with my first C section's epidural. They let both my mom and husband in the operating room with me which I was so happy about. My mom is a nurse and wanted to actually watch the surgery. When they took Harmony out, she was breech! Good thing I opted for the scheduled C section instead of a VBAC! The ultrasound I had less than a few weeks before showed her head down like she had been the whole time. I guess she knew she could officially get in any position she wanted too. They showed her to me and cleaned her up where I could watch while they were finishing me up. That was nice as I didn't even get to see Ruby until they cleaned her all up and had her wrapped up. My husband went with Harmony to get her all cleaned up and then they brought her too me in the room. I could not believe how small she was!! The last ultrasound they said she measured 7lbs 7oz but that the doctor thought she'd actually be bigger. Well she was 7lbs 5oz. Ruby, my first daughter was 7lbs 13oz and she was right at 37 weeks. The doctor said she was giving me 4 doses of Reglan to help me with my milk supply since they diagnosed me with hypoplasia (insufficient milk glands). I was then given the go ahead to start eating if I felt like it. I felt good so I started eating. Well, my band had been acting up towards the end of my pregnancy making it hard to eat anything before noon sometimes 1pm. I would have to drink at least 32 oz of water first which hydrated me well and then it seemed to help. Well I took 2 bites of soup and got stuck and was throwing up. The hospital staff was not very knowledgeable about the lap band surgery and so they thought I was just nauseous due to the reglan they had given me or some other medicine they gave me. I was stuck majorly too, the kind where I could not even hardly talk cause it hurt so bad and I just wanted to throw up the food but it wouldn't come up. Finally after about an hour or so, it came up and I was ok. Well, I decided to sip on water to hydrate myself and maybe start eating tomorrow. The water then decided to get stuck and I only had a few sips. I am foaming up this spit stuff and trying to explain I'm not nauseous it is my band and they need to call my band doctor for an unfil . The nurse was not listening and just gave me anti nausea medicine instead. I finally just said more sternly, CALL MY BAND DOCTOR! So he came and unfilled me and instant relief!! I knew it was my band and not nausea. I had almost 7cc's in a 10cc band and he took 6 out. The entire staff was just shocked at how good I looked now that I wasn't barfing. All the nurses who came in had to ask about it and how it worked, blah blah blah. It is just amazing to me that people don't know this but I guess if they haven't reseached the different WLS's then they might not have a clue. Anyway, so all was great after that. I'm having a few breastfeeding issues like bleeding nipples from a baby who loves to bite me and then not producing as much milk as needed, but other that that I actually feel great. This was so much better than my first experience. I'm only taking Ibuprofin for pain now. I'm just hoping and praying it stays well and that I don't end up with an infection like last time. Harmony was a little jaundiced in the hopsital and they put her on the bili light and she was rechecked today and the jaundice is going down, but I still have to supplement her with formula. She is a super good baby. Only cries for a dirty diaper or to be fed. Sleeps though all the noises and sleeps a good 3 hours before waking to be fed. When Ruby was this age, she was up every 1 1/2 hours and we could not console her a lot of the time. I am just overjoyed at this point and hope that all stays so great. Sorry this is so long. Anyway, here are a few pics.
