New momma question???

Ok, I CANNOT stand old ladies in the stores yelling at me for "taking that baby out in this heat."  Yes today in NJ it is 95 degrees.  It is dry heat, no humidity and we are either in the car ac or store ac.  But I have another question about the heat.

Is it OK to bring Sage outside in her carseat (not strapped in) in the shade for a little while?  For the passed few days I've been bringing her out by my pool with me while she is sleeping.  I keep her under a big umbrella right near the pool.  I check her often.  She doesn't seem sweaty or uncomfortable.  Does anyone know if this is OK for them?  After all it is summer and I cant keep her inside for the next 3 months.

Thanks everyone!

I just asked the Dr about this today because we are going on vacation next week. He said to keep her out of direct sunlight and to avoid "reflected" light too (not too close to the pool or water). He also said no sunbloc****il 6 months old. Oh and I put Amelia in her bouncer seat when we are outside so she gets a bit of a breeze (if there is any), it seems to keep her a bit cooler then her car seat. He told me she'll let me know if she is too hot or uncomfortable.

Oh and I asked about the acne question - he said to wipe it gently with a warm washcloth once a day and only give her a bath every 3 days (unless there is a reason to do it more - ie blow out poop etc) more then that can dry out their skin and that's what can make the acne worse. It's totally normal and will go away on it's own.

Liz, so dr. told you not to put sunscreen on here???  I have been lathering Stajah up with it, I am so afraid she will get burned.  Yikes guess I should have asked.

I take Stajah out from time to time, we are at the beach, so it's hard esp when she has a step-siser who wants to go out...ALL THE TIME.

That's what he told me. I didn't ask what the reasoning was. He told me to keep her covered with clothes and a hat and to keep her out of direct sunlite as much as possible.

We are going to the beach this week and I got her one of those 1/2 tent things so she can be out of the sun. I doubt that we'll be there long but I wanted to have it anyway. I am super fare and burn looking at the sun. I hope Amelia got her Daddy's skin not mine.

Is there a way to drag an extention cord out there? Bring a standing fan out and let it blow on you guys (also helps keeps bugs away). We do this when we bbq or do yardwork and it really does make a nice difference.

I wouldn't keep her in the car seat unless she's in the car.  They get very hot in those.  Outside is fine.

We have desert type heat during the summer here- No one has ever criticized me for bringing a baby out- granted make sure that she is dressed lightly and don't cover with a blanket if possible. I was always told that if you are uncomfortable, your baby may be too, so to use yourself as a gauge. If you are fine sitting in the shade, then she probably is too. Try spreading out a blanket and let her look up at the way the light reflects through the leaves on the tree. That may be better than the car seat. Or bring a bouncy chair, like Liz suggested. Don't listen to the old ladies- in their day there was no AC to retire to if things got too hot!

i don't think you should have to keep your baby indoors just because it's hot outside. as long as she feels comfortable and you are there at all times i don't see a problem. shame on those old ladies for thinking you have to stay hurdled up in your house just because of the weather.

i am a little jealous actually... it's been foggy here in california for the past 5 days and hasn't reached 64 degrees. i think today was only 55.... arrgghghh! i'll probably have a bunch of old ladies in the stores yelling at me because it's too darn cold!

i am sure you are doing a great job. i think someone else said just keep her out of the direct sunlight and she will be fine. remember our babies are in our stomachs and we were probably over 100 degrees!

all I have to say about the old ladies is, I am sure they didn't even have A/C when they were raising their babies. I would make point to tell them that too! See how quickly they drop it!

As far as the car seat, might be to hot. My daughter use to get so hot in hers. even in the car with A/C that I would not put her in it other than if we had to go somewhere. maybe a bouncy seat if that is possible, or even a pack in place in the shade, where she will get more air circulation. Just a thought.
