I just gotta say I LOVE my ON/GYN!!!
I had an appt with my OB/GNY today to talk about "family planning." The last time I saw her was Oct. '09 for my yearly appt. Anyway, she continues to be super supportive of me TTC even though I am large. Today she prescribed metformin to help my PCOS. I start with 500 mg daily and every week take 500mg more until I am at 2,000mg daily. I took metformin a year ago once a day for a few days, but decided to try to diet instead of taking the drug. So I don't really know what it feels like to be on it. I was warned by my doctor and the pharmacist that I might have GI issues. Hopefully I can adjust to it ok. I am very hopeful that this drug will help my body ovulate more consistently.
I am just so happy to have such a supportive, nonjudgemental doctor. She is truly great! And I'm super excited to be taking the next step on my TTC journey! Just had to share :)

I wish you the best of luck! I went to a reproductive endocrinologist before my lap-band surgery, and she put me on Metformin, also. I don't have PCOS, but I had irregular periods. Anyway, those "GI issues" are NOT fun. For me, I felt like I had food poisoning... extreme nausea, vomiting, dizziness, the chills, the sweats, broke out in hives, severe stomach cramps...!!! It was horrible. I was curled up in the fetal position on the bathroom floor, LOL.
However! I discovered (after I went off it) that certain foods react with the medication... particularly starchy foods like pasta, rice, bread, and potatoes. So, I highly recommend avoiding those foods while you're on it!
I hope you don't have any problems with it... many, many people take it without incident!
