HI everyone scheduled for revision but pregnant!
I am thrilled to be back in this group. I am pregnant with my second child and thrilled. It was a little crazy though since last Thursday I was scheduled to have my band removed and replaced. I called my doctor the morning of the surgery and told her I had a positive pregnancy test - not even sure why I thought about taking it but I had a feeling. I am thrilled, but a little nervous since I needed the band replaced - I have a dialated esphogus, a hiatal hernia and constant throwing up. We are going to start releasing the band....
Hey congrats on your pregnancy!!! How exciting!
I'm curious about what Dr. Kurian was going to do for you in terms of a revision. I too have a dilated esophagus. I am unfilled now to see if I bounce back. This is the second one - the last was over 2.5 years ago.
Did your espohagus not bounce back after an unfill rest?
Are you possibly getting a softer low-pressure AP band?
Sorry to be so curious. I need to decide what I am going to do too.
Best,
Leila

Leila.
Please be curious we are here to help each other. Dr. Kurian used to be in practice with Dr. Roslin.
She was going to remove the band and give me a new one. She has not unfilled the band yet because of the hernia and she did not want to mess around with it when I was there (it was decided in the last two weeks to do the revision after my esphogram) - but now that I am pregnant she is going to remove liquid slowly. I have been throwing up for some time -- a lot of time now --- and that is likely what caused it. She wanted to remove and she says the new ones are softer and better than I one I have. I was excited about the surgery.
I have Dr. Kurian's cell -- we are close -- so I called her to tell her that I took a pregnancy test the morning of my surgery and it was positive. So now we cannot do anything until after I have the baby. I am so excited to be pregnant but a little nervous about my esphogus.
What does Dr. Roslin suggetst?

Thanks. I know Dr. Kurian too from when she practiced at Lenox Hill. Like her alot too!
We don't quite know what we are going to do. I am waiting it out. I have UGI scheduled soon - better find out the date . I'm trying to avoid this whole thing. I would like not to have a revision. If I knew the AP would get along better with my esphogas, I'd do that but there is no guarantee with anything in life and I seem to want one .
Best,
L

I had a dialated esophogus for over a year. Frequent emptying did not help. A dialated esophogus is not the same as a dialated pouch. A swollen pouch is from eating too much, a swollen esophogus can be a sign that the muscles are not passing the food through. My band damaged the nerves and muscles severely. Since I had a revision to RNY, they are slowly healing (my surgeon has an upper GI machine in his office and is always dragging me in there). Hope everything turns out well with you and congrats on your pregnancy.
Is there a rationale for unfilling slowly? Most people usually just have all the fluid taken out at once. I've had that done several times.
