Need Advice on Play Yard (plus a shower pic)

Hi Ladies,

So I had my first shower. I have my work one this Friday. I think after all is said and done I am only going to have a couple things to buy which I am really happy about.

I think one of the things I am going to need to buy is our play yard. I did register for one at BabysRUs but I am not married to that particular one. So this is why it matters; I want to use it in the first couple months as a co-sleeper. I don't want to buy a plya yard & a co-sleeper because I am just too frugal (OK I'll say cheap) to do that. I want to know if anyone else has done the same thing and which play yards they bought and why they liked or disliked them.

Also here's a pic from my shower. I have to say my hubby is just so friggin cute!!!

We bought a playyard like the one below. Now, we have one that is red and chocholate brown that they don't make the pattern any longer.  Several friends have it in different colors and have loved theirs. We plan on using it in our room for the first month-two and then transition him to his nursery.

I have several friends who have ones like the one below and they love the newborn napper being a part of it.

I think the second one is a great idea! I had to put my son in his car seat to sleep at night for the first couple weeks, just because that position. It looks like that sorta mimics the effect. I might go buy one of those myself for this one!

We had bought a play yard that had a little bassinette in it for my first daughter and she hated it. We ended up putting her in the bed with us at night which scared the living you know what outta me every night, so with this one, we got a co sleeper that sits in the bed between the two pillows but keeps the baby secure so you don't roll over on her. I am hoping this will work well.

We had 2... a travel yard which we got for 19.99 at target it was on clearance its simple we used it in our room for the first 9 months it was next to our bed then now we use it for naps etc she is 13months old she can't really "play" in it but its fine for travel and napping. we don't use any of the extras its just a hassle.

then our other one is normal sized and came with the "extras" which we never used. I had bought it when i was babysitting and tried using the extras but never really did then with molly we just had it set high until she was older then lowered it, right now its her bed because her crib was recalled and we are waiting for the part.

just ask yourself where in the house will it be? how long are we going to use it? what is the main purpose of it?

also molly liked sleeping in her bouncer so sometimes we put her bouncer in the travel play yard and that worked out well. that way she was buckled in to the bouncer.

we also had this but we only used it a few time she would scoot herself out of it and next to me and my boobs! lol...some people like it though...for us it was a waste of money.

hopefully this helps!

We really don't plan on using it until the baby is a little over a month old when we go home to Ohio for Thanksgiving. We will use it at the hotel and at Great-Grandma's house.

I would suggest seeing them in person so you can feel the mattreses in each one. Most of the graco ones that are over $70+ have extra quilting on the pad. The ones that don't are just medium density foam.
I saw one at Sears from Graco for $99, sometimes it is on sale for $89, it has the nicer mattress, a working mobile (that spins) and a changing table. The colors are sage green and pink. I totally am getting that one when and if I have a girl!
