A questions... nervous...
About two days ago I noticed a black and clue bruise on Sage's right butt cheek. I have NO idea how it got there. She has only been with me, DH and my mother. None of us know where it came from. I am really nervous, I googled (bad me) and tons of horrible diseases came up.
Should I call the Dr.? Am i being paranoid?
Thanks
Karen

first, is she bi-racial? If so it could just be a mongolian spot you hadn't noticed before. My children are bi-racial and they all have mongolian spots on their butts that look like bruises, but they aren't. It's just a birth mark. Have the doctor note it, since I've heard stories of schools or caregivers accusing parents of abuse because of these birth marks; and that just causes a lot of problems. (Mongolian spots are more prevelant in hispanic/white mixes too BTW)
Secondly, does it look like an actual bruise, bruise? If so then I might draw attention to it with your pediatritian so it can be documented and check out thuroughly as well. Sometimes if they find these things on their own they immediately look to the parent as the cause and may assume abuse to some degree or another. If it's in your charts that you brought it up and whom she was with last then you and they can be on the look out for further signs of anything. More bruising or other symptoms.
While I know you trust DH and your mother, stranger things have happened, right?!

It could just be a bruise that she got accidentally too. Some babies bruise really easy, so even when your changing her and you she could bruise from a simple touch. Another thing is did she have shots recently? My kids bruised when they got shots as infants, and sometimes it wouldnt be right at the injection sight but far above or below it. I would bring it up to the dr just in case, but I wouldnt worry too much! She even could have been kicking her little legs and bruised herself if shes got sensitive skin :) Your a good mommy for noticing these things btw, and its normal to be worried like this!
Super proud mommy to Dylan, Owen and Sophia Brianne!
Emad had/has something similar and it is the Mongolian spot...his appeared a few days after brith and got darker over time and now has faded to where it is barely noticeable. It is on his butt cheek and spreads to part of his lower back. I was so freaked out but apparently it is very common in certain races and ethnicities....however, if you are concerned definitely put a call in to the pedi.
It sounds to me too like it could be a Mongolian spot. If you or your DH have African, Asian or Mediterranean heritage, your child might have one or several of these on her back or butt. My daughter's was huge and looked like a big bruise but faded by the time she was 3 or so.
If it fades to yellow, it sounds like a bruise - I doubt it is a problem but if it DOESN'T go away, have her pedi make a note of it in her chart so nobody can accuse you of hitting her or something awful like that. There have been a couple cases of CPS involvement when doctors were unaware a child had a Mongolian spot and assumed the child had been struck.
