Protecting your pouch...

Just a quick question guys- After having the twins 2.5 weeks ago, I took ibuprofen, even though they tell you not to after RNY. I chose to do so for several reasons- I am allergic to most opiate-based pain killers, so those are a no-go. They gave me a few alternatives, but they kept me so loopy that I could not take care of the boys like I needed to, so those were a no go. Tylenol does next to nothing for me either. So, there you have it. I really didn't over do it, and I tried to really stretch out doses and use a heating pad when possible. But, I think I may have damaged my pouch to some extent, because I have stomach pains for the last two days and everything I eat is making me feel sick. Thank goodness for watermelon- it seems to be the only thing that goes down, other than water. I have read before that some physicians recommend acid reducing meds if you take ibuprofen, but what has been recommended for those of you with experience? I think at this point it's just damage control- I am still bleeding and get cramps really bad as a result sometimes, but I handle that like I did before pregnancy with heat patches or the heating pad, so I am no longer taking any ibuprofen. I don't think I have an ulcer or anything yet, because the pain isn't that severe, just uncomfy. I hate to call the surgeon because he is so against ibuprofen unless you have had knee surgery- men!! So, any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!

TRy drinking some mylanta. My grandma swears it healed her two ulcers. Really, Ibuprophen shouldn't have done that much damage so quickly. it tends to be an over time kind of thing, but not always. I would try pepto or mylanta or things like that and see if it goes away (as in just iritaion) but if it gets worse or you are doubled over in pain, call your surgeon, he can always do an endoscopy.

good luck, hope it's something minor.

CArrie - I took Advil for about a week after delivering. I take pepcid every 6 hours and always take it with food. My surgeon told me that was OK for short periods of time and I have had ulcers in the past. I know that my pouch is on revolt since having Amelia too. I can barely eat 2 oz of food at a time and anything remotely dry kills me. I thought that I was going to die last night after eating a bit of chicken breast.

Hope that you feel better soon!

I think that we delivered the same day didn't we? 5/23? I am down to just spotting now and the cramping is MUCH better. Hopefully it will be for you soon too!

My surgeion said just not all the time.  He did say use the the liquid filled ones.  He said it will be better on the stomach.
