PCOS ladies and any others that may have suggestions

Hello,

Hubby and I have been trying to get pregnant for 5 months. I have tested my ovulation with ovulation test kit and the first few months I had a few days that were positive but I have had 3 months in row that nothing.  I stopped birth control in December.

Last month I had 2 periods.. one in day 32 of cycle and then again on day 16 of cycle...
My endocrinologist put me again in Fortamet (which is like Glucophage/Metformin) he thinks that it will help with ovulation.  I go to him for slow thyroid and all my lab work came back great.

My ob/gyn was going to order a test on day 2 and day 21 of cycle.. did day 2 of cycle when I had my period in May but then I had to recount since last period.. tomorrow would have been day 21 but nurse told me to not do it tomorrow... Dr. said to keep testing with ovulation kits for a positive ovulation test and then she'll send me to lab on day 7 of ovulation.  I am so frustrated.. because I told her I haven't ovulated in 2-3 months... nurse said if I don't ovulate this month to call them.

I never imagined that getting pregnant was so difficult.

I have lost 130 lbs since my surgery.. still have like 80 lbs or so to lose but hubby and I want to get pregnant this year.. I am already 41 years and I am so ready to start a family.

I think that if I don't ovulate this month.. my ob/gyn will put me on clomid.

As far as weight loss... I have been on a plateau but it hasn't been intentional or or not intentional... Thinking about all this has caused me to stress and I have been snacking on candy at work which i just put a stop to this this week.

I have not lost an ounce in months... so I am back to basics.. From today I am having protein shakes for breakfast and lunches.  Dinner I am eating sensible... 2-3 ozs of protein and something else healthy with it.

Now.. I need ideas for my snack in the evening.. I feel like I want something sweet..but not sure what... any suggestions???

Also, ladies with PCOS how long were you able to conceive after surgery? Please share with me your journey because sometimes I feel like this is not happening...

This past month I tried not thinking about it and what happened was I totally forgot about it and since ovulation tests have been giving me negative I have not been that interested.

Also... does anybody have this feeling of lack of libido??? Does anybody know anything I can do to improve libido??? I ask my endocrinologist about lack of libido if it was something hormonal but he told me no.. that it's not uncommon in women who are trying to get pregnant because it feels like a chore since we are so concerned about the timing...

Please any advice on this...

thank you sooooo much!!!!!!!

I can tell you that I was able to ovulate after surgery. I got pregnant the first month we tried and loss that one. Prolly due to low thyroid and progesterone. I got my thyroid under control and was able to pregnant right away. I am now 22 weeks and 3 days.

I know it felt like we HAD to have sex even if I didn't want it. I do know both times I got pregnant I figured it wouldn't happen that month (the first time cause who gets pregnant the first month they try? The second time was cause we got cleared to try in the middle of my cycle.)

Kathy - thank you for your post and congratulations on your pregnancy!!!!
As you can tell I am far from ordinary...I have heard so many stories that many women get pregnant right away after surgery after they leave birth control, that I was really looking forward to experience that luck.  However, I haven't been that lucky... I was ovulating the first 3-4 months after my year of surgery once I dropped birth control.  I haven't ovulated in 3 months.
I am hoping that I will in the next couple of months or my ob/gyn will probably put me on clomid.

I am sooo excited for you!!!! Take care!!!!

I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you. I also have PCOS and was looking forward to the possibility of quickly getting pregnant. Unfortunatly that has not been the case for me either.
I was on Metformin, Provera & Clomid from March-August last year with no luck of conception.
Then I stopped all of it. Started having AF on my own from Sept-Dec. Then all of a sudden AF stopped coming. Then I had sore nipps, took an OPK and it was + then AF came again 16 days later (that was in like April)Just got another +opk on Monday but I'm not temping so I hope I really ovulate.
ANYWAY- if nothing happens this cycle I will most likely plan on taking Vitex Chasteberry. I need help to regulate my menses and I'm ovulating (if I am even really ovulating I guess??? Apparently a +opk really doesn't mean much unless your temping to back that up) really really late which from what I read can't always be good.
I hope everything works out for you. Keep in touch. And I hope to hear good new from you soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Julia

I know that it isn't too reassuring but it takes the average couple 6-12 months to get pregnant.

I had the lack of libido too after  a  few months of trying because it was a "job" not pleasureable. Especially after my miscarriage because I wanted to be pregnant so badly it hurt! Hang in there though. Oh and get creative. It was the weekend we weren't "trying" when I did get pregnant. The more relaxed you are the better your chances I think.

As for the good sweet snacks you can try fruit and yogurt, sugra free fat free pudding, sugar free jello - these are all things that I eat on a regular basis and did while pregnant too.

Good luck!

I got pregnant pretty quickly after going off b/c. I also have PCOS, but I have always had regular periods, even when I was 330 pounds. I have had 2 m/c's. One was several years before surgery and that was when I was about 80-90 pounds overweight. I had to use metformin & chlomid to get pregnant. The 2nd was 7 months post op from surgery and that one was an accident...sort of. I wasn't using b/c but we also were not having sex super often either, so I didn't think it would happen. With this pregnancy, I got pregnant the first month we tried a year post op.

To answer your question about libido...mine has gone way down since I had my RNY and even further since I have gotten pregnant. When we were tryng the first time, it did become like a chore and that made it no fun (well...not as much fun anyway) so that's understandable I think. Stress is the thing that makes me lose my libido the fastest.

I really wish you luck on your journey. I know from experience how easy it is to look at other people's success and wonder why it seems so easy for them and so hard for you. It's so hard not to start to get bitter because of that. Please let us know how your journey is going. I will be praying that you get your little bundle of joy soon!

I had surgery in Sept. 07 and it took about 6 months for my cycles to regulate. I was regular from then onward, and the few times I visited my reproductive endocrinologist (usually every 6 months, December and June, for a checkup) I was ovulating. We didn't try until this January/February, and it happened on the second try.

Re: libido...my libido has been pretty great. I had a crazy high, androgen-fueled libido when my PCOS was not as closely controlled, so I guess it's just normal now.

Forgot to tell you that because of your age you should be able to see a specialist after trying for 6 months instead of the year they make the under 35 crowd wait.

I just wanted to add that because of your age don't waste time with an OB/gyn doing Clomid.  Get into see a RE and get started on some serious IF treatment right away!

It is possible!  I was 41 when I got pg in Dec. with this blessing!  Keep the faith!
