Swimming and Ear Infections
Jade will be going swimming for the first time next week. She's only had one ear infection that we caught early so it wasn't full blown but I'm terrified of her getting another one. I was wondering if there are any ladies out there who take their babies swimming on a regular basis? If so, were you worried about ear infections? What did you do to prevent your LO from getting one? (Am I being a worrywart seeing as how she does take baths and get her hair washed so water gets in her ears anyway?) HELP!!
Ok, I don't have a baby yet so I don't know how appropriate this is for a baby. But, when I was a kid I got swimmer's ear all the time which really hurts. My doc had my mom get a little ear dropper and mix 1 part rubbing alchohol with 2 parts white vinegar and put one drop in each of my ears every time I went in the water (wee actually when I came out of the water) to dry them out. They only did it because I was already getting swimmer's ear though. I wouldn't do anything unless she actually has a problem.

Most ear infections are caused by sinus drainage/congestion backed up in the eustacian tubes because they don't drain properly in babies. Getting your baby's head/ears wet is not likely to cause an ear infection. Even though Rowan has ear tubes, he has no restrictions on swimming/bathing.
You could also just not submerge her head and it will be unlikely she'll get much water in her ears anyway.
