How did you break the news?
We made a surprise trip up north to visit my husbands family. We live about 4hrs from them so it was totally out of the blue. Matt pulled up to the yard where his family happened to be doing yard work and threw a big dinner bun at him mom. She looked at it like WTH?! He then told her we got one of those in the oven!! It was sooo lame but pretty darn funny!
With my first pregnancy, I found out about a week or two before mother's day, so in the mother's day cards to my mom and my mother in law, we put inside that they were going to be a grandma. That worked well. Now this time, I put a shirt on my daughter that said Big Sister. My daughter wore it and my in laws didn't get it. My mother in law even read the shirt, but it didn't register with her. So I finally had to say, why would she be wearing a shirt that says Big Sister on it? Then she realized and got all excited. I waited to tell everyone else until the 2nd trimester. I teach high school choir and it happened to work out that the last day before Christmas break was only a few days before I started my 2nd trimester so I decided to have the students play a game where everyone wrote down 3 unique things about themselves that people wouldn't necesarily know and then we'd mix up the papers and other people would read as we guessed whose papers it was. Well one of mine was, I'm pregnant. Believe it or not, they weren't sure it was me at first!
LOL!!!! That seems to be a trend, with parents not "getting the hint!" And that's totally funny about your students! Well, I guess at least it was a high school and not a junior high, ha!!
On a side note, I LOVED my choir teacher when I was in high school. He was such an influential part of my life, during a time when I felt like I didn't belong anywhere. I remember one time, I had this crotchety old English teacher *****fused to let me go with the rest of my competitive choir group to sing at the local elementary schools. I was so, so upset. My choir teacher sent the bus back to pick me up after my English class was over!! He's now my friend on Facebook, and when I reminded him of the story, I thanked him. He is truly an awesome person. :)

I got my 6 yr old son this shirt (his name is Brendan and it's on the train part) and my 3 yr old daughter this shirt (her name is Brooklyn and it's stitched on hers) and that's how I told hubby I was pg with #3 last July and also each of our parents and then my sister and hubby's sister!! The kids also wore the shirts to the hospital when my parents brought them to see the baby too. So we've gotten our money's worth out of them!!!
Congrats to you and cute idea of announcing you're pregnant!
