Just got home after a 2 night stay in the hospital (long)
Sooo, I started out this week by having a stomach virus (vomiting/diarrhea) on Mon & Tues. On Wed, I finally started keeping stuff down, but I started running a fever. Thursday morning, I still had a temp and started having bilateral flank/back pain, worse on the right side. Being an ER nurse, I try to justify everything & wait til the last minute to go to the doctor. So, I went on to work Thurs morning. After about an hour, I got much worse. Starting vomiting, pain got worse, blood pressure dropped & heart increased due to the dehydration. My co-workers insisted that I check in. My urine & lab work looked horrible. They diagnosed me with dehydration, pyelonephritis (a yucky kidney infection), & a kidney stone. I got admitted to L&D because my OB wanted to keep an eye on me & baby. When they got me settled into a room, the nurse cam in to check baby's heart beat. She tried for like 15 minutes & couldn't find it. I started getting nervous because I've been hearing the heart beat with my doppler @ home for 2 wks. She went & got another nurse & came back to try again...3 nurses later, they finally found heart beat. Talk about a huge sigh of relief : ) Anyway, I spent a couple of nights in the hospital, got lots of IV fluids, & IV antibiotics. My OB put me on an antibiotic to take once a day for the rest of my pregnancy just prophylactic, since this is the second time I've had pyelo during this pregnancy. I feel so much better & hope to have a wonderful uneventful pregnancy from here on out : ) !!!
