A great book!
So, my hubby had a forced reduction in hours at his job, so we decided to apply for WIC- long story short they lectured me for some time about my daughter, who is 4 and in the 95th percentile for weight. I have worried a little about her, but she has the hispanic chubby body shape. I decided to do some research. I don't think putting a four year old on a diet is the best idea, since diets don't really work. I came across a great book that I wanted to share with any of you who may be concerned about a child who is heavier, or one who is too skinny too. It's called
Your Child's Weight- Helping without Harming by Ellyn Satter
I found it on Amazon. It has some great suggestions about how to approach food and also agrees with my thoughts on restricting food- diets make children heavier in the long run, and it's backed up by sound research. It has some really interesting thoughts that have made me look at my own issues surrounding food and my own anxieties, which are what are fueling my worry about her in the first place. Just wanted to share!

Thanks for sharing that. My daughter is also 4 and 60 lbs so she's got the chubby shape also and looks just like I did as a kid. I definately don't want to see her go down the same road I did but I don't want to give her a complex or eating disorder either. I'm definately going to check this book out, thanks!
Hi Carrie, what percentile is your daughters height? Mine was always on the 95th percentile for height and weight. I actually had a horrible experience at WIC when she was a newborn. They were "concerned" with her birth weight (8'11) being SO BIG. They made me feel like I had birthed godzilla. Some of the stuff they say is really cruel so you have to take it with a grain of salt.
OMG you and I are too a like... My daughter is 2 and weighs 40lbs... she don't eat **** but is heavier set and her lil body is built like mine...scares the **** out of me cuz I don't want her like me... My son's though are skin and bones so far...I hope they stay like there daddy... thanks...I am looking into this for sure...
