How long after your WLS did you wait to get pregnant?  I am having lap band done on June 8th and I know I have to wait some time before getting pregnant but how long did all of you wait?

The recommended time is 12-24 months post op.  Depending on YOUR specific surgeon and of course your individual results.  (I had RNY)

I was cleared by MY surgeon to start "trying" at 9 months post op because of the severity of my infertility (PCOS and Fiance with past Testicular cancer) we were told by the fertility clinic it WOULD most definitaly take IVF to get pregnant.....They were so wrong.

God has a plan for everyone, your baby will come to you when he wants it to.  Dont try to get pregnant until your dr clears you to do so.  I can speak from experience being this early out not only comes with its on trials and tribulations but sometimes EXTREME complications!  (I say this because I have went into preterm labor 3-4 times already)  It CAN put you and your baby at a higher risk if you conceive earlier rather than later. Always consult your drs.

God Bless and good luck with your surgery and journey, Its well worth the ride!!

Thanks for your response, I was told probably 12 months but some get pregnant around 6 months out and do fine.  I think it is different for lap band and RNY.  I had a complicated pregnancy with my son, seemed like everything that could go wrong did and he was born 10 weeks early due to him not growing (IUGR).  He weighed 2 lbs 1 oz but is now a HEALTHY 2 year old.  I just hope with me lossing some weight that my next pregnancy has a better outcome!

I accidentally got pregnant (yes I was on BC... I told them it wasn't working...) 7 months out. I DO NOT ADVISE THIS. Please wait. It is SO much more impossible to finish losing weight after the hormones of pregnancy reak havoc on your body. As much as I love my little man and as much as I would give anything for him. I wish I had gotten closer to goal before getting pregnant. The hormones from pregnancy allow you to stretch your pouch (for rnyers) I don't dump anymore and I feel hungry all of the time. It totally messes with you.

Most surgeons say atleast a year.... just my advice. finish this for you first, then focus on that little someone else. :)
