How much weight gain is too much weight gain?

I am going into my 26th week and so far I have gained about 21 pounds. I have been eating well and still exercising to try and maintain a strong body for labor and delivery. My baby is about 1.5 pounds so far and she is healthy and cute as can be :)

I am scared of gaining too much weight from this point on as my older sister had really bad preeclampsia (she was about 250) and also I hear that gaining too much weight can really be problematic during delivery.

Right now I am at about 182. My blood pressure is low (usually 105-110/60-70) and my urine has been clear of protein. Both my OB and my WLS told me I am fine but having been obese prior to band surgery, I know I can really pack on the pounds. My WLS thinks I will probably gain about 13-15 more pounds before the baby is born. That will put me at over 30 lbs gained though and that CAN'T be healthy for the baby or for me, can it?

From the experience you all have had, how much more weight can I really expect to gain in the last trimester? Did you have any problems with labor because of your pregnancy weight gain? Has your OB told you that you have gained too much weight so far in your pregnancy and if so, what did your OB recommend you do to slow your weight gain safely without hurting your baby?

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Having never been pregnant before, hearing others experiences really helps.

Well, so far I have gained 38 lbs. I have been eating well, and was actually diagnosed with GD, so have been eating SUPER well. I have been exercising the whole pregnancy. It just keeps coming on. My blood pressure is stellar and I am having no complications, other than then occasion high sugar reading. But, I had that with my first pregnancy too.
My first pregnancy I was 365 lbs. I had GD and only gained 20 lbs total. I had a normal, vaginal delivery. Yes, even us really big girls can push out a baby!
As long as you know you are doing all the right things, your weight gain will be what it will be. It's one thing if you know you aren't eating well, but since you are, you have nothing to worry about.

I have gained 33 lbs as of this morning. It seems like my 2nd trimester I gained the most. The third trimester I haven't been able to eat as much cause the baby is pushing on my stomach as she gets bigger. I am really pretty happy with my weight gain as I gained 55+ lbs with my first pregnancy. As far as preeclampsia goes, I had it with my first but I was also 80 lbs heavier than I am now. It sounds like you started at a good weight so your weight gain sounds pretty normal to me, they say 25-35 lbs if you started at a normal weight.

According to almost every pregnancy book out there right now for a woman in normal weight range for her height, the recommended weight gain is 25-35 lbs. So it sounds like you are right on spot.
Its not bad for the baby.. you have to remember that some of that weight is actually the baby, placenta, extra fluids, blood, etc. Its not 21 lbs of fat compressing your baby.

I have gained about 33-36 pounds all together so far. My doctor says i am right on track and not to worry. I was also told my baby was big which makes me feel a little better since i know a lot of this is the baby! LOL sounds like you are right on track. My goal is to stay under 200 pounds through all of this and plan to join weigh****chers right after. i am Pretty motivated and bought a joggerr the other day.

I have the lap band. I am due Sat Jun 12th and I have gained a total of 30 pounds, 11 pounds of which happened during the last two weeks, I have retained  so much fluid. I know it is hard to think about gaining weight again, but just focus on getting the proper nutrion and giving the baby what they need.
