Feeling Weird...unusual symptoms
Hello ladies,
I'm not sure what is going on today.......I am 25 weeks along and 3 years post RNY. In the time prior to getting pregnant, I had complications from my RNY whi*****luded vomiting, nausea, diarrhea and abdominal pain. I had 30 supplemental surgeries and still wasn't fixed when I got pregnant. As the symptoms got worse, my RNY surgeon blamed the pregnancy, but the OB insists that they are still RNY related and I will need to be constantly monitored by the surgeon throughout the pregnancy.
I have had several trips to the ER and a couple hospitalizations already in the pregnancy. I am constantly sick and have been dealing with it well, despite the trips to ER. Well today, I am feeling different....weird even. I am having terrible pain in the area where my pouch.....it doesn't feel related to the baby at all. The baby is moving a lot, which I am grateful for, but I wonder if it contributing to the nausea. Then, I felt like she kicked me in the chest repeatedly this morning. I have had a terrible sour stomach all day....vomiting and diarrhea. Water even makes it worse.......I checked my BP and Sugar levels and they were OK. I don't seem to be running a temperature.
I have called the surgeon, who again tells me to call the OB because he "knows" it's pregnancy related. Then the OB called back and said it didn't sound like pregnancy........if I wasn't better in the morning to come to the ER.
I'm tired of the war........I am patient that needs attention, not some pawn in this silly game. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on??
Thanks so much!

Sounds like it could be ulcers to me. When I had mine I was doubled over in pain and ended up in the ER where they told me nothing was wrong and sent me to my surgeon - he did an endoscopy with biopsy and found the ulcers. A few days on the meds and I started to feel better.
I sure hope that this is something that they can fix for you.
Best of luck and keep us posted!

That is such crap that they keep pawning you off on each other.
That noted, Do you still have your gallbladder? It could be related to that or it does kinda sound like ulcers. Do you take any anti-acid meds routinely? My RNY Dr has us on them to prevent ulcers since the part of your intestine that reconnects to your pouch isn't designed to handle the type of acid that it is now handling. Have you tried mylanta or tums or something ? I don't remember if they are ok for pregnancy but a quick call to the pharmacist should tell you...
Part of it could be pregnancy. I was sick as a dog my whole pregnancy (as were several others on this board) Perhaps you sould try getting an order for some zofran or phenergan to see if that helps some. The ER isn't such a bad idea either.
Sorry you are having to go through this. Hugs,
Victoria

YIKES...Is there any possible way that you could search out another surgeon...so it wont be the one that preformed your surgery- but they will understand the workings in there better the a OB Dr. That is what I would try. When I had developed ulcers- I was sick and thought I was dying (at the same time my GB wasnt functioning properly either)...I threw up all the time...it was horrible. Thankfully, I wasnt trying to grow a person...seriously- try to fing another RNY Dr, even a partner. I wouldnt keep going back there. Some Dr's are just idiots. I hope your better soon.
I'm saying it's 90% chance of ulcer going on. Have your doc change your stomach meds (which you should be on for life. I was initially on Pepcid but still got ulcers while on it. I was just recently switched to Nexium 40mg. twice a day and 1g of Carafate 4 times a day) If you're already on something like Nexium or Protonix then you're pretty stuc****il you deliver, but if you're on Pepcid or nothing at all, ask to either be put on Pepcid (if you're on nothing) or ask to be switched to something stronger like Protonix or Nexium because you most likely have an ulcer since RNY patients are more prone to them and you don't really want to risk an endoscopy at 25 weeks if you aren't in dire straights. Especially when they can just try to treat your symptoms first. The anesthesia they give you for the endoscopy could cause you to go into labor and it's not worth the risk unless you had like a bleeding ulcer that was bleeding profusely.
Good luck. I hope you get some answers!

Thanks everyone! I was on Protonix until they found out I was pregnant and they took me off of it, as a matter of fact all of the GI/stomach meds I was on prior to pregnancy I was taken off of.
It's just so frustrating, I even know that everything that is going on is not all pregnancy related. Because of my complications, I can't find another dr to touch me. I even tried Cleveland Clinic, John's Hopkins and Mayo......nobody wants the liability.
I had to have an endoscopy about 8 weeks ago and the surgeon said he found nothing......so when I called this morning about a possible ulcer the nurse told me there was nothing there 8 weeks ago.
Hopefully, after this little one is born, I can get some answers on my health.
Thanks for all of the support and great advice!!
