Update and a couple questions

Hi All!! Amelia and I are doing great - she is an awesome baby - very even tempered and calm. She is eating about every 3 hours and sleeps well in between. Daddy is totally in love with his little girl even though he was rooting for a boy. This morning when I changed her, her umbilical stump fell off! I can't wait to give her a real bath, I think that she is really going to like it.

Oh and you ladies who have had a ton of stitches - hats off to you! These few that I have are driving me nuts! I feel like I have on a corset made of that plastic netting stuff - ouch! I guess they are pulling now, that's why

I have a few new Mommy questions.

1) when can I take a bath / go swimming in a pool? I had an episiotomy and have a few stitches.  should add that I am done bleeding (at least for now??).

2) any tips for keeping Mia on somewhat of a routine? the last 2 nights she has thought that  3am is the time to look around and be wide awake. I try not to change her at night unless she is dirty or really wet, I keep the lights low. Our typical routine is just a bottle and some snuggling but the last 2 nights when I go to lay her back down (after she falls asleep in my arms) she just cries - we can go through this 10 times (this morning it went on from 3-5 when I broke down and gave her a little more to eat and ended up holding her while she slept). I know it's too early to spoil her but I don't want to get into any bad habits either.

3) I am going to look it up in my books too but when did baby start to smile "on purpose"? we get lots of smiles now but I know she can't control them just yet.

Oh I posted a ton more pics on FB today!

It's good to hear your both doing well...

I had stitches with my daughter but I dont remember when u can go swimming or take a bath...

The routine thing... it took me a week or so after I got home to get the boys use to a routine... They didn't want to sleep in there bassinets... I now have them sleeping in the same one cuz they need to be next to each other, now that there getting bigger I have to get a crib ready so they can sleep in one together...  I am super lucky and they only wake in the middle of the night to eat and then they both go back to bed for me not a problem at all... I love it... and I am sorry I am really no help there either...

and the smiles..my boys do the same thing... they smile a lot in there sleep or when I talk to them... It's hard to say when they know there doing it...

Liz, glad all is well. I took a bath as soon as I get home. Dr. Said that was fine. It helped with uncomfortable feeling. Not sure about swimming, ,but probably ok.

Hi Liz!

I was actually told to take a bath right after my delivery and I had a 2nd degree tear so I don't believe there are any restrictions there.

When it came to a routine we tried to keep things as usual every night and she just eventually followed and got used to it. If you do your routine and she doesn't follow stick with it and she should catch on soon enough. Annie actually chose her 9:30pm bedtime on her own. It was pretty  nice! As far as the crying goes she is too young to spoil. Just feed her on demand and sooth her if she cries. From everything I have been told and read they don't have the smarts to know how to manipulate us until they are about 6+ months old then it never stops! lol!

Annie didn't give us an intentional smile until she was about 2 months old & I just cried and cried!!

Amelia is sooo cute by the way! She looks a lot like you! You guys are doing such a great job!! I am sooo happy for you!

Hey Liz!  Amelia is very cute!

I was told not to take a bath for 6 weeks even though I had a cesection since I did dilate there's risk of infection for 6 weeks.

I gave Sage a bath the day her cord stump fell off.  She loves baths!

Sage never cried at night but sometimes she does was to stay up and look around.  I let her lay down until she falls asleep, but if she's crying that's not good.  Try and make some sort of bedtime routine.  We feed her, then bathe her then cuddle her then she falls asleep around 10:30-11pm.  When she gets up to eat try not to turn on the light, get some sort of night light and use that, that's what we did.  Also try not to talk to her or engage her too much, just be about business when she wakes up, feed her, a quick change and that's it.  Try and put her in the crib or bassinet wen she is still awake but drowsy so she gets used to putting herself to sleep.  Have you tried a pacifier?  Maybe that will help?

Sage has been smiling for the passed 2 or 3 days, and I think they are intentional.  This morning Russ was talking to her saying something cute and she gave him a huge smile.  But she is also rolling over already, apparently they aren't supposed to for 3-4 months. LOL.

You are doing a wonderful job!!  Thanks for the pics!

Liz she is so darn cute!!! I glad all is going well. She will get the hang of it. It just takes time. I had to hold my DD for every nap and I admit I was a co sleeper. I never lasts for ever. Just do what feels right.

Thanks ladies! She is the love of my life! So far today she has been awake TONS - she did take a good 3 hour nap and I fed her and just laid her in the crib and she put herself to sleep. I hope this continues through the  night!

Thanks again!

Sounds like you got a lot of good advice, I don't really have much to add other than during the daytime when she's awake, I'd really try to keep noise going and lots of stimulation so she will want to be awake more in the daytime than at night and can easily tell the difference between the two. It might take a while though for her to get that. It sure took my daughter awhile.

Amelia is cute, love the cheeks!!!!
