turns out my little guy has every bad sleeping habit from myself and my sisters...

he talks in his sleep all night long like Aunt Resa....

last 4 months he has started screaming out or crying out constantly between 4 and 6 am like his mama did (for the record i was worse i had night terrors)

this week he took aunt traceys sleepwalking to another level! imagine turning over in sleep to find your 4 year old STANDING in the center of you bed... when i ask him mikey whats the matter he starts ....hop....hop....hop....hop... not a full out jumping in bed but hopping! i tell him to lay down and he does just that crumples into a little ball and is sleeping... MY KID SLEPT WALKED INTO MY ROOM TO JUMP ON THE BED!!!!

really i cant tell the story withour cracking up but it was very disturbing. now i can't sleep very well... every noise i am out of bed checking on him... for fear he is going to get into something or do something without me knowing... the last 2 nights i put him in our bed just because i was sooo exhaused.....

Omg my son sleep walks occasionally too. The older he gets the less he does it. (Hes almost 9 now) Sometimes he'll just stand there and i'll guide him back to bed. Once I asked him if he needed to go potty and he nodded and tried to go into my room to pee. I had to help him into the bathroom and back to bed. It is a creepy feeling to wake up with him standing over me, and  over the years ive become aware of all the creaks in his bedroom, so if he gets up I am usually instantly awake. We did install a security system on the doors and windows to tell us if they open. I too was scared of him going outside while asleep. So many things can happen! BTW, we live in a townhouse, so you can install these alarms even if in an apartment. We had ADT do it. Good luck!

Super proud mommy to Dylan, Owen and Sophia Brianne!

wow - a little creepy to roll over and see your little one just standing (or, um, hopping) there!! I wish I could help you, but I just had to extend my sympathies. I can imagine you are exhausted! Maybe call the pediatrician to see if they have any tips??

I had that growing up.  As an adult looking back I know that my parents let me have caffeine and rarely if every exercised me.  They certainly didn't give me the 1 hour+ of exercise a day.  Also, (not saying this is your case) my house was a very stressful place.

Try taking him for a nice long walk with you an hour before bettime.  We started doing a family walk every night (about 2/3 mile) after dinner and my12 year old has been sleeping much better.

Oh, and think about putting one of those child-proof locks way high up on your door. I used to sleepwalk as a child. One night in the middle of winter, my mother found me in my little sisters jacket with my slippers on, halfway out the door. I think I was 7.

just a quick update... the pediatrician says that it is definatly hereditary and while some people only get one sleeping type disturbance it is not uncommon for toddlers to have all 3.... he also asked about his naps... little guy has started in the last month to skip naps about 3-4 days a week.... i didnt think it was that big a deal cause he would hit the hay on those days an hour earlier... apparently my pediatrician thinks that he should def be napping till about 5 or 6 yrs old... after thinking about this i am wondering if these sleep disturbances have happened on no nap days??? so the nap fight begins today :) no more nap skipping ..... this could be exhausting... probably not as exhausting as worrying all night though.....
