so, I got my lab results today, and im kinda freaking out. I know that they are indicating anemia, and im wondering how this can affect my baby, and what I should do. (Im awaiting a call from my dr, but sometimes it takes awhile for them to get back to me on things like labs) I have been taking my vits the way my NUT and DR's all reccommended, yet it seems its not working. My diet is pretty high in protein, and iron I thought.... Here are the flags from my labs.

Creatinine serum, LOW (o.52)

Calcium, serum, LOW (8.5)

Albumin, serum LOW (3.4)

Iron bind. cap(TIBIC) HIGH (477)

UBIC HIGH (419)

Iron saturation LOW (12)

Ferritin, serum LOW (6)

Prealbumin Low (18)

Any advice or help would be great ladies!

Hey Jennifer! I don't know about all the other things, but my iron is low enough that my doc is sending me to a hematologist. I see them on Friday and I'll let you know what they say. I am sure we are in different spots though because my iron is low due the fact that I have not been taking my iron pill because of severe constipation. I can't add another thing to the list that is going to make that worse. So I am hoping the hematologist will have a recommendation for me about the best way for me to get iron without the pill, but I might just have to start taking it...grrrrrrr.

P.S. Can you believe we're 31 weeks tomorrow? Only 9 weeks left!

Carbonyl iron won't cause constipation.

Also, new iron out that won't -- called Proferrin.  It's heme iron, absorbs better (actually HATES acid, so perfect for us), can be taken with calcium, is the absolute best absorbing iron.  But is more expensive.  And it won't cause constipation or stomach upset, either.  This is what I take and it's done wonders for my crappy iron counts.

Yeah, you're severely anemic.

And if you don't have the iron to give baby, baby will become anemic as well.

You need iron.  Now.  Because you don't have any stores left for you OR the baby.

I like Proferrin.  It's FAST, and I guarantee (and I don't guarantee much) that it won't complicate constipation.  Plus you can take it with anything, won't upset your stomach, and you can't OD on it.  But it will bring your numbers up VERY quickly.

But it's not cheap.  A bottle of 90 is $58 or so from vitalady.

That's what I use.  It doubled my ferritin, iron sat, and serum iron in 3 months taking 3 a day.  And my numbers were just as trashy.
