I'll let you know how my post WLS delivery goes, but I am planning on having my 8th baby - at home unassisted in water. It will be our 6th UC water birth.

I'm planning on a natural birth in a hospital setting and have every intention of refusing pitocin and epidural.  I plan on using the bathtub and exercize balls and walking to labour through until the time comes to push.

It had nothing to do with RNY patients, but if you are interested in such types of births as what you mention above, you should rent The Business of Being Born - a documentary by Rikki Lake.  I recently saw it and I found that it was beautifully made and completely increased my resolve to stick to my guns with respect to my wish for a natural, drug free birth... even gave me the desire to perhaps deliver my second child (if I am so blessed as to ever have another) at home...

Good luck with your upcoming surgery - you're about to embark on an awesome journey to a whole new  you!

p.s.: I plan on sharing my birth story and pics here when I deliver, sometime early July, but if you want, feel free to add me as a friend on here..

Thank you, i actually have done a lot of research on natural labor & birth already & yes The Business of Being Born is a great documentary so is the docum. Pregnant in America its very informative.

The reason i put this out there is i would hate to have a hospital birth and be swayed into using drugs that i don't want or need just to ease the Dr.'s schedule & time frame. I know sometimes these measures are needed in emergency situations but...

I believe although painful our bodies were meant to do this miraculous thing and i want to be as alert & connected with my baby as possible among other reasons.
Good Luck & God Bless to all my natural birth moms out there more power too you!

I was just talking about this today with my mom and grandmother. My mom had three of us girls and her mom (my grandmother) had just one daughter. Anyway...all those births were drug free/epidural free. They both said it wasn't that bad and thought they were better for having the experience.

I really want to try to have this baby with no epi or drugs if possible. On a funny note...my grandma said when she was having my mom she could hear a lady next door having a baby and cussing like a sailor. She said she felt like maybe she should be making some noise too, but just didn't feel like it was that bad!! LOL

I'm really hoping for a delivery like that gal that was driving the car and it just "slipped out"!! LOL

I think it's great to have a plan of what you want to do. My water broke at 6am. When I got to the hospital at 10am, they stuck an IV in and I was unable to get out of the bed until the birth, 19hrs later. I had originally wanted to be able to take a shower and walk around the halls while laboring, but they shot that idea down. Oh, and they did start me on pitocin right away. That was 12 years ago. My next baby, I will be more prepared!

Hello

I had two natural deliveries, the first time was ohhhh so painful I really didnt know what to expect and it hurt like hell. But the second time was much smoother. The difference is that the first time I  held my breathe and tensed up, second time I let nature do its thing, When I felt I needed to push I just did it lightly while laying on my side - just to move the baby down slowly, the first time I pushed like I wasnt going to get another chance and tore so badly I needed 70 stiches.

My advice is to take a class if possible or find a site online to help you. Breathe, do not hold your breathe - BELIEVE ME the pain will be intense and you will be screaming for an EPI, I was....but mine were so quick I didn't even get an IV. When having a contraction count backwards from 30 (that helped a lot). Nothing can really prepare you but I guarantee if you have more children it gets easier.
