Anyone try for a certain gender...and it worked??

There are a few methods of trying for a certain gender. I have been reading up on your odds of trying to concieve a certain sex (Shettles method, ect). I am trying to increase my odds of having a girl, so far my plans are to eat a lot of acidic fruits (to create a "hostile" environment for the Y sperm) and also to have intercourse 3 days before my most fertile time. I was wondering if anyone has tried these methods? If only for fun? Of course, having a healthy baby is my prime concern (but I really would love a little sister for my 12yr old daughter!!) I will start TTC in August and have been a lurker here for a few months. Best wishes to all preggos and those TTC!!

There is info about gender swaying (including "high tech") on this website.  I did not do it myself, but did consider trying to sway for a girl.  I don't remember the method we were going to do, but it was the theory that girl sperm are slower and live longer so not to have intercourse close to O'ing.

When we finally started trying I decided to put it in god's hands and figured that I was meant to have what I was meant to have.  I am pleased to say though that according to my ultrasounds I am expecting a girl this time though.

Good luck to you!

Chinese gender charts are old wives tales and the only reason your friend happened to get it right was purely coincidence.  Each baby in theory has a 50/50 shot at being a boy or girl.  I would LOVE to know where you read it had a high percentage rate of accuracy, because every bit of research I have ever put into the subject shows the opposite.  In fact, most people can back and see if it was correct for them at birth, and in most cases, it's not. Do not ever rely on a gender chart, heart rate, or any other myth that cannot ever be proven.

The only method that has any scientific basis behind it is the Shettles method, but even with that, it did not work for us, nor my best friend.  You can also have sperm washing at a clinic which has a much higher rate of success.   At any rate, good luck to the OP!

Thanks everyone! I will be eating a lot of grapefruits, and hopefully by the fall I'll be expecting...I'm so excited!
I had my daughter when I was 19 (not planned) and have been researching TTC for a while. I hope everything goes ok...I never thought I'd have a teenager AND a baby at the same time. I guess thats the way life works out sometimes.
I can't believe how far baby gear has come since 12 years ago. Everything looks so cute and comfortable, hopefully I will be able to buy some of those adorable pink things soon :)

When did you have your revision?   Are you still losing weight?

Hi Amy,
I had my revision about 6 weeks ago, and only have to lose about 5 lbs. I actually can eat a lot, regardless of my RNY because my esophogus is so swollen, and will hold a lot of food until I drink water to flu**** through (sorry, TMI). I have spoken to my surgeon about TTC, he said wait a few months, continue with 4 protien shakes a day and try for at least 1700 calories a day. All that is no problem. I am not in ketosis or have dumping issues, so he gave me the go-ahead. I will be seeing a high risk OBGYN and doubling up on vitamins, of course. I know most say wait at least a year but my weight has been stable for 5 years, only had to have a revision because my band was causing medical issues. Since I am otherwise healthy, he did give me the go-ahead with the recommendation that I also see him every month for labs and B12 shots :)

Good!  I was afraid you were still losing 5 pounds a week and wanting to get pregnant.  Yes, we have had posts like that on here before!

I've had my band for almost 5 years.  Did you have a slip?

Good luck on TTC!

I had 2 slips and have damaged muscles in my esophogus. I loved my band but it just wasn't working for me anymore. I had it for about 6 years :)
