Feeling better
I am feeling so much better today. Thank you all for your advice and comments. I lost 4 lbs from being so sick and must have been dehydrated. I haven't had any issues today, stomach feels much better. I actually forgot how small my ankles are supposed to be, apparently they were holding some water even overnight before. I think my body took every last ounce of fluid it could for the baby! Now to stay well for these last few weeks!
Hi Tami,
I'm new to this forum~ I usually visit the main board or NC board. First of all let me say I'm glad you're feeling better. Secondly, I noticed that you've lost 120 lbs. and have 80 lbs. to lose to get to goal. I had gastric bypass in January 2009 and have lost 157 pounds, but would still like to lose another 50 pounds. I'm 35 and really getting eager to try to get pregnant (this would be our 2nd~ we have a six year old). My question is whether I should wait until I get this last 50 pounds off or if it would be alright to go ahead and start trying to get pregnant? What is your opinion and/or personal experience (if you don't mind sharing)?

Congratulations first off on losing 157 lbs! I'm 31 and this is my 2nd child, I have a 4 1/2 year old, so we're pretty close there with that. I had the lap band though and we don't have exactly the same kinds of nutritional issues that RNY patients sometimes experience but I know that I was told by my surgeon to wait 1 year to have a baby (but things happen and I got pregnant earlier). I was 260 when I got pregnant which is approximately the weight I was at in 8th grade, so for me that was great and I was probably the healthiest I've been ever too. Also, my goal weight is 180 which for me would be great, but it's not actually at a normal BMI, it's still considered overweight. However, it really is weird now to see the scales going up and it's not comforting even though I know its for a good purpose. Since I still had a BMI of 40 the doctor initially wanted me to just gain 15. Well as of this morning, I've gained 26 lbs, so more than they wanted, but still not bad (I gained over 55 with my first). I guess what I'm saying is that it's really up to you, if you're ok nutritionally with vitamins and are feeling healthy enough to have a baby and your doc thinks it's fine, then go for it!! Just be prepared to have to work hard to lose the extra baby weight plus whatever you have leftover after the baby is born, that is what I'm wrapping my mind around now and trying to prepare for.
Tami,
Thanks for sharing your personal story. I currently weigh 175 lbs. I was at 332 when I had surgery. I had my yearly exam by my OBGYN today and we discussed the family planning topic. From a health standpoint she said it would be perfectly fine. I forgot to ask her about the fact that I'd still like to lose 50 pounds. I hate when I remember my questions AFTER I've left the drs. office. lol. I guess I am a little nervous about gaining the pregnancy weight and not being able to get it off, but I guess it would just take some extra effort and determination on my part. Thanks again for sharing your experience and congratulations on your upcoming bundle of joy!!
