WLS and twins--connection?
HI everyone! I had a question and thought i would take it to you ladies here on the preggo board...
is there a connection between people who have had WLS and then having twins?
ive known 3 seperate people who have had RNY and then given birth to identical twins a few years later.... is this just a coincidence or is this something that could happen to me?

Identical twins have nothing to do with RNY -- one egg splits to produce the twins (thus to answer your question, 100% coincidence). Although I am not sure any studies have been done on fraternal twins, if women are dropping more eggs due to release of estrogen from weight loss, there may be more of a chance of fraternal twins. But again, i don't think there has ever been a study done.

Like you I know someone who just had identical twins and is post op and hers was just a fluke of nature. She is 5.5 years post op and has a 3.5 year old daughter, an almost 2 year old son and identical twin daughters (just 1 month old). Her twins are a rare set as they shared an amniotic sac and placenta. Lucky for her twin B has a strawberry hemangioma on her arm so she can tell them apart that way.
