How long do you have to wait to try and get pregnant?

My surgeon is one of the most respected and at the top of his field.  I am GRATEFUL to have him as my surgeon.  As I said in my original message, I believe he was trying to convey to me the seriousness of getting pregnant too soon after having a malabsorptive surgery.  I can only believe he must have had other patients who have done so.  I have, reluctantly, deleted my original message because I don't want to cause any more controversy and impugn his excellent reputation.

Of course his insurance could not force me to take any action, and it wouldn't be necessary in the first place because I have more sense than to risk a precious child's health by not doing what every WL surgeon I've consulted with during this process has told me - use 2 forms of birth control until weight loss has stabilized and I have been released to get pregnant.

So, I took his strong statement to mean that if I chose to disregard  safe medical guidelines, his advice, AND his insurance company's requirements, then he would have no choice but to discharge me as his patient.

Ask your surgeon now when TTCing is OK, and see how your one year labs are.  Wait until two years if necessary.  Really get your labs in order before getting pregnant.  You will feel a lot better about your pregnancy if you've made the most of your WLS and have your labs in order.
