Pregnant Bandsters Fluid Question

Broom,

Overall, just talk with your docs about your concerns. Your OB and WLS should be able to advise you on what to do. With 7 weeks left, I doubt you will gain a tremendous amount..

I may not have mentioned it in my post but another reason I was glad I had the fluid removed in the beginning was because once the nausea wore off (around week 16 or 17), I was STARVING. Not starving in that my band isn't working, or I didn't have enough restriction, but just starving in that I wasn't getting enough calories cause the baby was taking EVERYTHING out of me. I have not gained too much weight so far (only about 17 pounds since my 1st appointment). I was glad I got the fluid out because I too was worried I wasn't eating enough for her.

Don't be scared about removing fluid for fear of flood gates opening in terms of weight gain. I was afraid of that too because I had just got down to a low weight when I got pregnant but just simply having had weight loss surgery made me conscious of EVERYTHING i put in my mouth and while some days are better than others, I still eat pretty much the same stuff I ate with my band before pregnancy, just a little bigger portions.

So you have a tool in place to help you lose once you have the baby, which most women don't have the luxury of having. My WLS told me to expect to lose in the first few weeks between 18-20 lbs, just from having the baby and my body getting rid of all the excess fluid. Then he said if I breast feed, I will burn more calories and feel even better. After that, I have my band which can be refilled slowly to bring me back down.

As I get further along, I am also having a hard time eating as much, even though my band has less fluid because I am SOOO short waisted and everything is pushing on my stomach. I have to eat VERY slowly so I don't get bad indigestion. I can't even imagine how hard it would be if I also had a tight band on top of that pressure.

Thanks for the advice I will see about making the appoinment with my doctor and get myself on track for my lil guy. Your story sounds just like mine.  I finally got down to my lowest weight we started baby making and poof here I am. I am up a total of 20 lbs .  Thanks for your support.

Take care,

I could have used a tiny fill, probably, prior to getting pregnant, so I have been fine with my current fill. I didn't have any issues with throwing up or nausea, and I've been able to eat pretty much everything (although I miss my staple of deli meats!)
