Pregnant Bandsters Fluid Question
I had about 1/2 of my fill taken out during the first trimester (around 7 weeks) due to throwing up and having all day sickness. I have not had any adjstments since that time. I can eat more but I still can't eat bread, tortilla, and other things. I don' thave a high restriction but enough to kind of keep me in check. Also, the OB wanted me to make sure I was eating a well balanced diet with fruit and such. I had trouble with fruit when I was at my highest restriction level.

I did not have any fluid taken out. Looking back, I probably should have during my first trimester because I was sick but I was unsure if it was due to my band or pregnancy. The theory of my surgeon and doctor was that of as long as everyone was ok and getting the nutrients we both need then they were going to leave well enough alone. I think it varies per person. You will just need to pay attention to your body and talk to your doctors. GOOD LUCK!!
early on my OB and my surgeon and I all agreed we would only take fluid out if needed. I did end up having abit removed during my "morning" sickness phase, but we put it back around week 14 or so, and I stayed at that level the rest of my pregnancy!

Also, it is worth it to get some zofran if you do have nausea, since it's best that we don't vomit.

My WLS policy is remove a bit after after 12 weeks then revisit at end of 2nd trimester, beginning of third.
I had HORRID 24/7 morning sickness which required medication so I wouldn't throw up as my doc said that I was not supposed to throw up at ALL because I could injure myself so I should avoid it at all costs.
He removed 2 ccs out of my band at around 10-12 weeks because all I could stand to eat was bread and I was a full restriction and couldn't get it down.
Then last week he removed another 2 ccs because I was getting heartburn just from drinking water only! I am now about half as filled as I was and totally comfortable.

I've had no fluid taken out. I did not have bad morning sickness, only a little nauseous for a few weeks. My band wasn't too tight to begin with, it definately gave restriction, but I could still pretty much eat anything as long as I chewed it up really well. As the baby has been getting bigger, the band is more tempermental. Especially mornings. I sometimes can not eat solid food until noon. I have around 6 1/2 cc's in a 10 cc band. I have gained a good amount of weight too, and the baby is large, so I know the baby is getting plenty of nutrition.
Hi All,
Thank you for the speedy responses. I am happy to hear that I am not alone with keeping fluid in my band. Here's my story I have a 10 cc band with 3.25cc inside pregenancy life has been peachy. I know most of you will hate me when I say this but I was prescribed Zofran and never had to take it infact I never had any morning sickness at all my entire 1st trimester. SECRET: B6 ladies I took it starting 6 weeks before I started trying to get pregnant and religiously every day during my first trimester. This made me very lucky to not have to suffer from morning sickness.
I had planned on taking fluid out as needed but I really haven't needed to yet. My inquiry stems from now that the baby is larger I am finding that it is harder to eat the amounts that I think need and harder to keep food down in the mornings. Is that odd? I am 33 weeks prego and I know now is the crucial point for baby to gain his weight and I am worried my baby will not get everything he needs to gain his needed weight. I am also scared about removing fluid in fear of flood gates opening. Did any of you have this problem.
Thanks again,
Broom
