My Birth Story
I am a daily lurker and really enjoy reading everyones posts and advice! I decided I should come out from hiding and join the conversations :) DH and I welcomed our little guy, Ryan Jeffrey, into our lives just about 11 weeks ago.
I was 40w5d pregnant and going in for NSTs every 2 days. On 3/3, we were at the hospital for the test. The baby was quieter than normal. My doctor suggested being induced for this reason and because I didn't have any signs of labor. The induction may take a couple of days and I would be getting close to being 42 weeks pregnant. I was doing all of the tricks before hand and nothing made a difference.
We decided to stay and get the show on the road. The drugs on Wednesday didn't change anything so I was given different drugs on Thursday. Thursday night is when the hard contractions finally started. Friday came along and the sleeping meds wore off pretty quickly. By 11am, I was finally dilated to 4 and decided to go for the epidural. 4pm came along and I was finally able to push. I had spiked a fever and was just shy of their limit of where they admit the baby to NICU. DH was basically pouring cold water on me to cool me down. There was meconium in the fluid so we knew the NICU team would be there to check him out. At 6:58pm, he literally popped out and surprised everyone. His Apgar scores were 5 & 7. He was grunting and had to be taken out of the room for about 30 minutes. DH got to go with him. The baby was fine and just needed a little oxygen.
I had hoped I didn't need to be induced, but for me, it wasn't that bad. It took a long time, but I didn't have any complications other than being in the hospital for 3 days before the little guy was born.
Breastfeeding is going well and baby is healthy. He's a touch on the small side (born 7lbs, 3oz and now weighs 9lbs, 5oz) but growing proportionally like he should be. He will be 11 weeks old on Friday and I go back to work next Thursday. Time really flies by!
