IUGR and gastric bypass?
Just wondering if anyone out there has experienced IUGR (interuternine growth restriction) during pregnancy.
My little girl was growing just fine up until my 36 week ultrasound on Friday where is has only gained 1 ounce in the last 4 weeks. Since I am full-term tomorrow they will do another ultrasound and if she hasn't gained any weight they will induce me Friday morning....
They don't seem concerned because she isn't at risk or anything and will be full term but just wondering how common it is- especially for those who got pregnant early out (I was 3 months out from surgery when I found out I was 4 weeks pregnant)

I don't think it has anything to do with your bypass. Especially since it is just starting to happen now at 36+ wks. I have been on this board for over 5 years now and have seen maybe a handful of women come to the board with IUGR.
Considering you are so late in your pregnancy, the placenta may not be providing adequate nutrition for some reason or another. At any rate, it is good that they are monitoring you and I hope that all goes well.
Take care.

They never used those words specifically with me, but when I went for my 36 week U/S Sage was 5 lbs 14oz. She was born 4 weeks later at 6lbs 6oz. The Dr. who delivered her said my uterus was so tiny he could barley get his hand inside to get the baby out. I remember laying on the table during my c-section thinking that it was taking a lot to get the baby out. When it was all over he told me it was such a struggle to get her out due to how tight and small my uterus was. I dont know how no one caught it during the pregnancy but Sage is a healthy girl now.
Good luck to you!

I had that with my daughter- and it seems that with my twins this time their growth has slowed down a lot too- not as much, but right at the same point. They blamed the placenta for my daughter- this time it's because it is twins. My daughter was pre-wls while this pregnancy is post. Inducing is a good idea, because anything could happen. I was induced at full term with her too. Good luc****ep us posted.

My little boy was born 11 days late (yes, I'm positive about the dates) and weighed 4 lbs 15 oz. I never heard the term IUGR until after he was born. Basically, my doctor sucked and just didn't want to be bothered with me, but the doctor who delivered him said the placenta had started deteriorating at 38 weeks. (So he was without proper nutrition for 4 weeks). I don't think it's related to WLS, but I know if there is any question about it, it is best to deliver.
Good luck. Sometimes babies just get to the point where they grow outside better than they could inside.

I was diagnose with IUGR at the end of my pregnancy. Libby just stopped growing and the doctor scared the **** out of me with it!! I probably would have been induced sooner, but my doctor when on vacation! So, I was induced at 39w1d and Libby was just extremely small and perfect.

Now that thats done.lol. It will be okay, promise. Remember I was having this problem, and for longer than you...from about 30 weeks they realized it. Anaya was growing the entire time just at a VERY slowed rate...to the point she started dropping off the charts. At delivery..37 weeks and 3 days she was measuring at the 4th percentile for her gestation. My high risk dr was constantly trying to blame it on my RNY or that I got pregnant sooo soon, I was being pumped with sooo many carbs and calories some days I literally just felt nauseous from the amounts. According to u/s her placenta was fine...dopplers said the flow was fine...and according to biophysicals her movements and scores were normal. Upon delivery what was her problem...NOTHING! My little girl just decided to be petite (and its funny because my regular OB wouldve put money on this being the cause and actually said she didnt see a reason to induce if there is no cause). She was born at 4 lbs 10.8 oz...30 days later my munchkin was weighing in at 7lbs 3 oz...almost doubling her size. Could it be the timing related because I got pregnant 4 months out...possibly but I doubt it as my sister whos never had a surgery in her life delivered two boys at 4lbs 4oz and 4lbs 12 oz. Some babys just know when they are at the size they want to be for delivery.
Any questions feel free to ak me..be it about IUGR or induction
