I understand that every marriage is different, but.....in no way would I ever be able to term a pregnancy because of someone elses opinion.  (my baby, my body, my choice.) Of course you have your own reasons, Im not judging you either way....my advice....dont have the test.

I was told by my dr that the quad screen has a habbit of showing false positives...and makes you worry for no reason.  I wouldnt risk it.

If the child is born with anything "different" or not "perfect" would you really love him any less?  No, you would have your entire heart into that child, and wouldnt care either way.

I hope you and your hubby can find some peace and I really hope you follow your heart....I suggest talking with your pastor or maybe just a little extra prayer...

I think it's better to know what your limitations are physically, emotionally, financially beforehand than after when it's too late ...

I worked for an Orthopedics company where we provided Orthotics (arm, leg, back braces, etc.) and Prosthetics company for over 5 years and saw children every day "living" with Downs, Spina Bifida, CP and it is heart breaking for them AND for their parents. Many of them having a sound mind but broken body - they were trapped.
I always say there are worse things than death and I believe "living" this way is one of them. I say "living" because in no way is this living for either the child or parent.

It's one thing to know beforehand and be able to choose and another for it to HAPPEN and choices be made for you. It's not only about you and your desire to have a baby. My husband and I talked about this too and decided with our OB that if there were anything very seriously wrong with our baby we would terminate and that's the decision we had to live with. Have you seen how many handicapped children are in foster care because people weren't prepared to care for them. It changes everything.

Good luck.

I wasn't brave enough to say what you just said! I and my husband, feel the exact same way! I also worry that giving birth to a baby who as a grown up might need around the clock care or be unable to care of him/herself, I would worry y whole life of what would happen after I die. Yes, thatc an happen to a well child too. But, if I have the knowledge beforehand and can do somethign about it, I'd rather not rbing a child into this world whose quality of life is going to be severely affected.

I think I love you!  That's too funny.  I hope she reminds him of that!

Just becasue you get a "positive" on the quad screen does not mean there is something wrong with the baby.  And if your results indicate thereMIGHT be (which is all this test really does...gives you the statistics of something being wrong) then the doctor would suggest and amnio be done for further determination.  The amnio would be the only thing that could give you a conclusive answer one way or the other.

You could skip the quad screen and just go straight for the amnio to get an accurate answer.  I would discuss it with you doctor.
