Water breaking or just lack of bladder control

OK all - for those of you whose water broke at home what was it like? Having to even ask the question is embarassing! lol

here's what happened to me today, it may be TMI for some, sorry. I was outside with hubby doing some yard work and came in to get a tissues, my allergies have been going crazy and I needed to blow my nose. Well in the process of doing so I noticed I suddenly became wet. Now I am not sure if my bladder leaked or it my water leaking. I went and got the "what to expect..." book and it said that there should be no smell to fluid - urine of course smells amoniaish. Well panties smelled a bit like amonia but shorts didn't. I went in and took a shower and figured I'd wait and see for a bit if there is anymore leaking. I have had some contractions but nothing regular or horribly painful. I hate to call the OB and drive the 40 minutes to the hospital if it is nothing. I just feel silly. There really hasn't been much going on as far as leaking - maybe a few drops if anything but I haven't had to do a "wardrobe change" or anything.

Thanks ladies - I think that we might be getting close!!

Try laying down for a bit... so that baby doesn't have it's head over your cervix.  If you lay down and you start to get wetter... then it might be your water.

Good luck.  I never had my water break on it's own, they always did it for me when I was at the hospital.  It could be a small leak.

If it is pee, no worries... it happens to the best of us.  I was walking to the truck today after my daughters softball game.  I really needed to pee, but didn't wanna use the port-o-potty at the field, so I was going to stop at MCD's on the way home.  Well, of course half way to the truck I sneeze and peed a little.  I ended up having to go use the port-o-potty anyway.  Thankfully it was decently clean and was equipped with hand sanitizer.  LOL

When my water broke at home I was suddently wet, so I changed clothes.  Got up walked to the computer and sat down.  The water kind of pooled in the chair....when I stood up it started running down my legs.  It also squirted out when I laughed.  If in doubt go to the dr because they have a strip they can touch to the wetness to tell if its urine or your aminotic fluid.  And believe me you won't be the first pregnant lady go in there thinking their water might be leaking.  They won't think your silly at all.  I say its always better safe than sorry.

Thanks ladies! I haven't had any more leaking so I guess it was just urine. I will be keeping a close eye on things though.

I have a gut feeling that this baby is going to be here very soon.

Oh and they should give us a box of those test strips when we hit 37 weeks! lol

I think MY OB's office said that, if it was your water breaking, you would be soaking through pads. When mine broke, it wasn't like I leaked a little, it was like I had emptied my bladder and it was running down my legs. My mucous plug was also in my panties - looked a little like a jellyfish.
Toward the end of my pregnancy, I just had to wear a pad all the time, because my bladder would leak every single time I coughed or sneezed.

Thanks! I had a feeling it would be a bit more dramatic then the few drops here and there I am getting now. I have been loosing "pieces" of mucous for the last 2 weeks but nothing big or streaked with blood.

Thanks!

Liz,

I do not want to discount what all of these other women are telling you, but your water can just dribble out...it is not always a dramatic event.  So, watch yourself...if you keep getting damp, please get checked because it is very unhealthy for your bag of waters to be open for more than 48 hours due to infection.  So...now that I have totally freaked you out...try to go rest...lol  Just pay attention to your body and do not discount all wetness as pee...cuz sometimes it is not.

Take care and keep us posted!!!

Laura

P.S.  I think I am a kleptomaniac...cuz I can't remember wich child it was with..but I heisted some of those strips from the doctor's office...only time I have ever stole anything in my life...and the best thing I could have ever stolen...LOL

Thanks Laura - my MOm said the same thing. Haven't had any more issues though. I see the OB tuesday I'll mention it just in case.

LOL!! I would have too if I knew where they kept them :)

I had the flu right before I had my first. Every time I threw up, I thought I was losing urine, and it was a small amount. So needless to say, I had to go in for a U/S a couple days later, and found out it was in deed Amniotic fluid that was leaking out. I then had to be induced right away for the fact that my fluid was low. So don't right it off. I would get checked!

i always thought it would be dramatic but it wasnt it was leaking all day from about 9am (when i noticed****il I went in to the hosp in the afternoon. If you u are ever in doubt go to l and d or docs office and get checked they just put a paper strip on there and its no biggie once you start leaking time is ticking mine was dribbling and was clear and odorless so thats how i knew it wasnt urine and my vagina was wet (tmi) and it was very thin like water lol....i was just in denial!

I keep checking to see if you had that baby yet! Good luck
