Pregnancy after RNY?
I know they suggest waiting 2 years. Who has had successful pregnancies post RNY? How far out where you when you first got PG? Had you had children prior to your RNY? Do you also have PCOS?
I am hoping and praying that by having an RNY I will also be able to get pregnant easier. I have a 10 month old now. I had to go through rounnds of injectable fertility meds in order to conceive him.
Anyone have any insight?

Hello! I was 2 1/2 years out from RNY When I got pregnant with my first baby. I was told pre-op I wouldn't be able to conceive on my own because of PCOS with IR. WEll I went off my BC pills the end of january, got pregnant in April, miscarriage (blighted ovum) in June, pregnant again in August and not-so patiently waiting to deliver my little miracle any day now!
Good luck! And yes you should wait 12-18 months at least OR until you are at a stable weight for 6 months with consistently good lab work results.

Sure - people have successful pregnancies less then 2 years out - is it the best choice to knowingly put yourself in - NO. For the rapid weight loss phase which can last a year + you are in ketosis which is detrimental to fetal neurological development. In order to keep yourself out of this you need to eat eat eat and lots of carbs all things that go against why you had surgery.
36 isn't too old to have a baby. Waiting the appropriate amount of time puts your body in the best shape possible to carry a baby and give that baby the brightest possible future.

It's been 2 1/2 years since i had surgery. I was very careful right after surgery because i wanted to make sure i was focusing on my new lifestyle change before i brought a baby into this world. I also was very by the book during my weight loss and wanted to do things right (not saying that getting pregnant before the time they say is wrong) but was going strickly by what the doctor recomended which was to wait at least 18 months before getting pregnant. Before WLS i had irregular periods and wasn't on birth control for over 7 years. Since surgery my periods are regular and i had no problem getting pregnant when i wanted to.
For me, i can't imagine getting pregnant during the first year of WLS surgery. Too much for me was going on both physically and emotionally to handle a pregnancy. Everyone is different however and i have heard and seen people get pregnant right away after WLS. For me, i took every percaution not to get pregnant before 2 1/2 years.

My plans were to wait until at least a year after surgery to start trying. I never had periods prior to surgery unless I was on BC. My husband and I tried for 9 years to get pregnant, seeing fertility doctors, etc... with no results. I am 10 months out from surgery, and am 12 weeks 2 days along in my pregnancy. It definitely wasn't planned, but we thank God that everything is going well. I'm still losing weight, even though I'm eating more than I used too. I eat more small meals a day. My DH and I just got careless, because all those years, and nothing happened, then God blessed us. It might not be the right timing, but I am so happy that we are actually going to have our own little bundle of joy! Our due date is November 25, 2010, which is Thanksgiving. What a blessing to be thankful for!!!!
fostermk: God bless you and I hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months!! We tired for 7 years and finally were blessed after many rounds of fertility meds. The pregnancy was torture though, being as I weighed 345lbs by the end of it. I ended up with pre-eclampsia. Not something I want to go through again!
I plan on waiting at least a year. But Lord...I dont want to have to wait the full 2! I want a large family and I am getting too old!! LOL
How is it going for you so far?

I was 6 years out almost to the day when we concieved, we hadnt been trying we were actually up till that month spacifically trying not to... but we decided we might as well give it a shot since we werent getting any younger. I was 35 at the time of conception and am 36 now, first baby, no known fertility issues to begin with but being of "advanced age" we were skeptical. We will be having her June 3rd via C section if she doesnt decide to show up a bit earlier... and honestly I have a feeling she may try to be a May baby.
