Dr.'s Appt & Nuchal Translucency Screening Tests
I went to the OB for my regular appt. (11wks) & we were able to hear the heart beat with the fetal doppler !!! I haven't had any bleeding in 4 wks which is great. The Dr. was not happy because I'd lost 4 lbs since my last appt 3 wks ago :( , but I've been very sick this past week & had to get IV fluids. He told me to try & sip Ensure. I'm definitely gonna try, but I'm not sure how Ensure will sit on an already nauseated stomach ? They want to do the nuchal translucency screening test (labs & ultrasound) next week. I'm a little nervous about this because I did not have any screenings with my first pregnancy. I declined the AFP/triple/quad screenings, but they say that this one is more accurate (it was not routinely being done when I was pregnant last time). Anyone have experience with this testing good or bad ??? I'm gonna keep an open mind & hope that all goes well...
apparently this one is way more accurate. i did both the nuchal and quad screenings and they both came back normal. of course if it had come back that there was a problem I would have wanted to know before the baby was born so I could prepare. even if you know you will continue with the pregnancy if there is some sort of problem, some babies, like ones with Downs have heart problems you need to know about before delivery.
It's a personal choice, but most of the time everything is just fine, better to put your mind at ease!

YAY for hearing the HB and no bleeding!!
I wouldn't think that ensure would sit so well - how about some toast or crackers. Jo told me to eat 1-2 oyster crackers every few minutes, you can even let them dissolve in your mouth. Then maybe try some ensure or milk. Sip your water too - just take tiny little sips to keep yourself as hydrated as possible. I lost 15 pounds in my first trimester and the Dr never worried.
I declined the NT test. There are false positives and I would just worry. It is a totally personal decision though.
Congrats again on a great appt today!

Thanks guys !!! I've been keeping down crackers & cheez-its, but "real food" has been really hard for me ever since my surgery. They told me @ the beginning of my pregnancy that I couldn't lose anymore weight. I've been malnourished & vitamin deficient since surgery. I've kept my prenatal vitamin down the whole time. So, I'm hoping baby is getting everything it needs. I bought some protein bars & pediatric boost. I hope I can tolerate those, so I can get some fat/calorie intake along with my protein/carbs. They didn't really ask about the NT test. They just scheduled it. They want me to do it mostly for the placental function portion just to make sure it's adequate. We will keep this baby & love it no matter what. I really don't want the excess worry associated with false positives that's why I opted out of the other testing, but hopefully everything will be fine : )
Well, the best thing about doing the resting is you get really good scans of your baby. Yes, it is a personal decision.
Since I was 35 when I got pregnant, with my first child and they knew I wouldn't do an amnio, they insisted that I do NT scan with screenings. My RE and OB had recommended it anyway. Everything has been fine. But, that still doesn't mean something could be wrong. Hubby and I just looked at that it was a way to get extra peeks at the baby and have the best care for the baby. We would 100% keep our miracle no matter what the tests showed.
