For those of you whom have PCOS and are pregnant or have had a baby, I was just wondering did you have to take progesterone orally or vaginally to keep the pregnancy? Just really curious to see how many of you had to take it...

This is how I have supplemented with prog.

Sublingual - delivered baby - lost her twin
Vaginal Sup - delivered baby
Vaginal Sup - delivered baby
Current Vag Suppos and 17 weeks preg  my current dose is 400 mg and I am weaning to 200 starting tomorrow and then will be off in a week.

ETA 2nd preg w/ vag supp that delivered a live baby :)

So you took some form of progesterone for all 4 pregnancies? See what I am wondering, is if most women with PCOS are having to take the preogesterone so they don't lose the baby then why aren't we put on progesterone once we start TTC? Would that not be a good thing to do or what?

My prog levels are monitored very closely by a reproductive endocrinologist. I usually do not need supplementation until I am actually pregnant.   I have had the same dr for my last 4 pregs and have always needed prog supplements.  I have PCOS, thyroid and was infertile for 14 years.  My first pregnancy, that was a loss was conceived with fertility treatments.  My last 4 pregnancies have been unassisted

If your doc does not support prior supplementation and you would like to do it anyway ...
You can get prog cream (non RX) from the health food store.  Ther are kinds you can rub on your labia area and there are creams you can put on your skin.

There is also an herb that is sold under the name Vitex that helps support progesterone.  Google Vitex and read up on it.

Yeah I have read up a little bit on Vitex hoping it would help get AF coming again and regulate things a lil bit. But then I started exercising regularly and I started getting AF. Or so far any way. Guess that could change at any time. (I have PCOS also)

with my first I was on vaginally supp. 200mg twice a day until 13 wks lost the baby at 20wks- PROM and unknown cause why it all happened.

with Molly my levels were fine also took clomid though to get preggers with her.

If you have a low progestrone prior to preganancy your luteal phase will be short...that is the time from when you O to the time you start your period, spotting counts. This is usually 14 days but as long as its 10 you should be okay but if you can get to 14 thats optimal babies implant anywhere from 7-10days after ovulation.

Molly implanted around 7/8 days and Gabe was 9/10dpo so as you can see if you start bleeding early your baby won't make it.

If you are seeing an RE I believe they check your prog levels during your cycle.

Hope this helps!

I had PCOS both pre and post op. I conceived with assistance of using Femara, Avandia/Metformin, Viagra suppository (for uterline lining increase) and also HCG Trigger shot. I actually did not realize I was pregnant until I was 6 weeks. I was put on a vaginal progesterone supplement unitl I was about 14 weeks along. Inserted twice daily. I forget the dosage...sorry.
However, I did have a healhty baby boy...carried to 37 weeks.

I did an over the counter progesterone cream daily from 3dpo until af or pg, then started the suppositiories for 12 weeks. I was being monitored very closely as well. I say as soon as you become pg have them test it and they will let you know if you need it. Shari
