Gestiational Diabetes

So...all of my GD tests were negative, but because of the size of Lorelai and the excessive amniotic fluid, the high risk doc at the hospital thinks I still have gestational diabetes. I have to get a glucometer and ***** my finger after meals etc.
I was just wondering if any of you out there have had your tests come back negative but still had gestational diabetes. It doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Also, any advice on how to eat would be greatly appreciated. I have eaten more sugar since I have been pregnant, but still not a ton. I can't find anywhere online that gives ameal plan or anything. Just curious what others dieticians have told them to eat when they had gestational diabetes.

I have heard of glucose testing on us being less then accurate, but I am not sure to which side the lack of accuracy fall, if its positive or negative.  I do know I was very worried about taking the test with out a potty near by cause for me even 6 years after RNY, sugar on an empty stomach rarely goes well...

That said, the orange flat soda thing had no noticable effect on me physically... the first time around I didnt know I was supposed to be fasting, and it was a tad high, but they ran it again and it was all good.

None of this helps you, and sticking your finger and or and A1C test is far more accurate over all so it cant hurt to do it to be sure one way or another.  Id give a call out to my surgeon as well to see what they say about the Glucose tollerance testing being accurate as well... Good luck!!!!

Thanks. I didn't do the glucola test because I know I can't tolerate 50 grams of sugar. I just fasted, had my blood drawn, ate my normal breakfast and had my blood drawn again 2 hours later. My numbers all came back normal.

Well a classic diabetic diet is much like an RNY plan - high protein, low carb and what carbs you do have should be whole grain and "natural" (ie no white bread, pasta or rice). If you google diabetic diets I am sure that many links will come up.

Here are just a few that I found looking quickly - the first one will send you a free cookbook and meal planning guide - the others have it online. The Diabetes.org is the American Diabetes Assoc and will have TONS of info for you. I am a reactive hypoglycemic & hypoglycemic so I follow a lot of the diabetes rules too. Also great up with a father who is a type 1 diabetic.

Oh and know that carbs have just about as much of an effect on your blood sugar as pure sugar as the body turns simple carbs into sugar to process them.

Good luck!
