Mirena IUD?
Hello,
I'm on Nuvaring, love it so far! My best friend got preggo with Mirena IUD and had a miscarriage. That's my only knowledge of it, so ya I went with the ring! So easy, put in on the 7th & take out on the 1st-period in that week. My periods are much lighter and almost painfree with it. I can't believe it really... Good luck with Mirena!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Mirena IUD. I've never had any side effects other than the first 6 weeks I bled on and off. But, since then I have NO PERIODS...no cramps, no spotting...NOTHING! I never have to worry about did I remember the pill, should I bring pads with me in case I start. I've had it for almost a year and I can't say enough good things about it. Insertion was a bit uncomfy but I had a c-section and I never even dialated a fingertip so my cervix was closed tight. She had to insert it with ultrasound because of this. But, said that if I dialated any the insertion wouldn't have been no where near as uncomfy. It felt more like a pinch than anything else. If you have anymore questions let me know!
I tried the ring for 3 months before we started TTC and for me I bled the entire time I had a ring in or out. I never had a break the whole 3 months I tried it. So I knew I would never do that again.

I had the IUD (Mirena) for about 3 years.
I enjoyed it. Nothing to remember.
I was one of the few that still had periods, spotting, etc. But nothing I couldn't handle.
TMI ALERT!! I totally recommend having it inserted while on your period. They say your cervix is more open that way. I went in towards the end of my period and it was very painful because my cervix was not open and they had to open it in order to insert. So, per the doctors orders, I was supposed to come in during my period. (the nurse I called misinformed me).
So insertion was uncomfy.
I recently had it taken out, that was easy. But beware of the extended and HEAVY bleeding after. It does go away-but freaked me out 'cause no one warned me about it.
I would certainly do it again :-)
Good luck!!!

I have the implanon implant and have had it for 3 years. This one goes in the underside of your arm and is better if you havent had kids already. Felt like a bee sting to have it put in but thats it. I only got my period one time after having it put in and am about to have it taken out and have another one put in before i get WLS.
I got one in October 2005, 2 months after my GBS. I had the Mirena for 4 years. I've never had a baby, so it hurt quite a bit going in, even during my period. Serious cramping!! OUCH!! (Hurt just as bad coming out)
My periods kept getting lighter and lighter until after about 4 months they just stopped completely, no spotting, nothing. That was nice!!
For the first few years, I loved the Mirena. I don't honestly know if I was having any side effects or not, because I blamed everything on my gastric bypass surgery.
After about 3 1/2 years I decided my problems may be the Mirena. I would feel bloated a lot, to the point of pain in my belly. This would happen at least once a week. I had some acne that I didn't notice before. Sometimes during sex, I would get a sharp pain, that I believe was the IUD poking me. Also, I was pretty moody. I finally decided at 4 years, I would get it out and see if that made me feel better.
I told my husband if he didn't want any more kids (he has three daughters from a previous marriage), that he'd better get something done. He didn't. And about 4 1/2 months after getting the Mirena removed, I got pregnant.
Be happy to answer any other questions about the Mirena...
Good luck to you!

I had one put in after the birth of my 2nd child and LOVED it. I had some cramping for a few days and then bled for like 2-3 weeks off and on. Then I had no periods, but I was nursing and that could've contributed to it. But then I weaned my daughter at a year out and still didn't get periods, but lightly spotted here and there. But I had no PMS symptoms like cramps, mood swings, etc and loved it. Once I had my IUD out last May, I got my first period and PMS symptoms and was miserable. I realized how much I loved the IUD. I'm actually going to get the Mirena IUD in this friday at my 6 wk PP visit and can't wait! GL!
