8 months post op and Pregnant, scared.
I am still in denial. I took probably 6 digital pregnancy tests early this morning cause I usually start my period like clock work the same time every month even the same time of day. After 6 tests coming up positive my Hubby looked at me and said, "when are you going to realize, you're pregnant?" OMG!!! So I called my OBGYN offfice in a panic and they sent over stat labs to be done at the closest office and then I waited. The nurse called me this afternoon to tell me that my pregnancy level was 300 and my progesterone level was 17.5. I was quiet for a moment on the phone and then asked her, "Does this mean that I really am pregnant?" SHe laughed and said, "Yes hunny, Congrats!" OMG!!! I cried a little and asked her if my levels were okay then. She said anything over 10 for my progesterone was good and that I would need to come back in at the same time in 48 hours to have more labs done./ I explained to her that I was only 8 months post op from RNY and she calmly told me that my OB was aware of this and that he was a high risk doctor and everything would be okay, to not panic.
I am trying not to get too excited or panic but um, it's a little bit hard to be calm. I have been infertile due to PCOS since May of 2000. That's 10 freakin years! My Husband and I adopted my son as an infant, and even though I cannot imagine my beautiful son not in our lives for a even a smidge of a second, I just thought this was how I was only ever going tyo be a Mother! OMG!!! I'm freakin pregnant! PCOS has controlled my every woman hood, my weight controlled my becoming a Mommy naturally. I was beginning to think that even if my PCOS symptoms went away I could never still imagine a baby in my tummy!
So, my questions are basic PCOS/pregnancy questions...
1) Should I have my progesterone checked frequently?
2) Should I be eating more carbs now?
3) How much Prenatal and folic acid is enough with RNY?
4) Is slight cramping normal when you are about 5 weeks along?
5) I'm having headaches, is this normal?
6) Is 300 a good pregnancy level at this stage?

So, my questions are basic PCOS/pregnancy questions...
1) Should I have my progesterone checked frequently? Once it is checked and confirmed that its good...your fine if it was low you would use a supplement and then have checks so no
2) Should I be eating more carbs now? I think so, I was several yrs out so I was on a dif place than you....someone will answer
3) How much Prenatal and folic acid is enough with RNY? You need to take a prenatal vitamin thats all i took but as for folic you can take extra if you want....it won't hurt. You will have labs done especailly watch for anemia and may need to take iron too
4) Is slight cramping normal when you are about 5 weeks along? Yes you are going to be crampy and everything will be stretching go to babycenter.com or a similar site and then you can follow your preganancy it will tell you what you are going to experience etc.
5) I'm having headaches, is this normal? I had headaches with both of my pregnancys Just tell you dr so that they know and if they get bad they can look into if its just pregnancy or if its high blood pressure etc
6) Is 300 a good pregnancy level at this stage? yes if you just missed your period like with molly i hadnt missed it yet and was 126 then 300 then with gabe it was 90 then 252...they look for it to double in 48hrs so when you go back make sure its been 48hrs.
CONGRATS!!! Just eat healthy and take care of yourself...the baby comes first so your body will give everything to the baby and leave you with nothing if it has to! :P

First of all congrats! You and baby will be fine! Now to answer questions
1) Should I have my progesterone checked frequently? Probably just the once more when they re-run your betas, unless it is low they won't test it again.
2) Should I be eating more carbs now? YES you need to eat about 100 grams of carbs a day (1200-1500 calories and 90 grams of protein too)
3) How much Prenatal and folic acid is enough with RNY? 2 prenatals a day and 800 mcg folic acid
4) Is slight cramping normal when you are about 5 weeks along? totally normal
5) I'm having headaches, is this normal? can be - it's the reaction to the hormones
6) Is 300 a good pregnancy level at this stage? It is in range, the range is very broad. The true test is that you want it to about double every 48 hours.
Good luck and congrats!

First off CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I was only 2.5 mo post op when I became pregnant and everything went perfectly so you probably don't have anything to worry about! Your weight loss will actually help you have a much healthier pregnancy then if you were at your pre op weight. I had to increase my protein to 80g and also make sure to drink 32oz of milk a day just for the protein, calcium, and healthy fats. I had to take calcium x2, folic acid, C, D x2, iron, prenatal, B12, & B6 daily.
Good luck and get ready for the ride!!
