Anyone else paranoid about gaining too much weight?

This is the 1st time I am posting here. I hadn't made my pregnancy public till last week and now I am 2 days away from my 2nd trimester.

I used to weigh myself every Sunday, still doing it. I know I'll gain weight with my pregnancy. Through the first trimester, I only gained 2-3 lbs. However, thatw as gained within the last week. I am freaked out that I'm going to keep gaining at the rate of 2 lbs a week and that means I'll gain 40-50 lbs in the pregnancy which is not healthy and how will I ever lose it again.

ARGH I know I should focus on a healthy pregnancy but having been morbidly obese, how do I get that fear out of my head? Sorry, I think I just needed to put it out there, maybe somebody lese feels the same way.

Sylvie,

Believe me, you are NOT alone in this. I am rounding back up to 200 lbs now in my 3rd trimester and I never wanted to see a 2 in front of my number ever again. That being said, I am so happy to be pregnant (it's one of the main reasons I had RNY to begin with) and I try to focus on that good side. Some days are worse than others, but I have to keep reminding myself that my doctor has no problem with how much weight I've gained so I shouldn't either. It's an every day battle for me.

Congratulations on your baby! Keep coming to this board, there are some great ladies on here with some really sound advice and encouraging words.

I am up a grand total of 7 pounds. I am the opposite. I am freaking out cause I am not gaining. I just loss 2.6 pounds in the past week. When I do have the weeks where I go up I keep telling myself, it's all baby. I do know I have a big ole baby belly already and I am wondering why I haven't gained more since I am wearing my old fat clothes. I do know that no matter how much I do gain I will not be the 387 I was at my high.

I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.

I think the fear is with us for life.  Good news is I don't recall one birth story on here with a gain of more than 40 lbs with the average being 20 or so.

What I found (unexpectedly) was that AFTER my DD was born I was far less mobile.  I was BF her and wasn't very good at soothing her so I didn't leave the house much.  That's when I gained.  AND ALOT... 30 lbs.  The same 30 lbs I gained / then lost during the pregnancy!

Just keep walking/exercising and I think you should be okay.  What I need to remember is that I should have kept exercising afterward!

Thank you! I am walking 3-4 times a week since I was training for a 5K before getting pregnant. I will walk it instead of running it but it gives me a goal. I guess I'll have to remember to continue after the birth as well.

If you are exercising a lot then maybe just add a protein drink?  See what that does for you weight-wise.

I gained 50 lbs.  Already lost 18.  Try not to stress, I ate pretty well the whole time and still gained a ton.

I have gained a total of 32 pounds SO FAR. (LOL)

Once I got over the reality of weight gain I was able to enjoy my pregnancy much better. My doctor says I am doing great and my baby is healthy. I have stayed motivated and I am focused. Once my baby is born I will be able to concentrate on walking and exercising like I was pre pregnancy. I refuse to be "that" fat girl again so that is my drive and motivation. My doctor told me from the very beginning. "Well you have to gain weight. The baby is counting on you to provide what he/she needs. You need to think about your baby." Those words kind of stuck with me since then and all though the thought of gaining so much weight has terrified me i have managed to stay focused and motivated to get the weight off after my baby is born healthy.

Good luck and i know it's hard. We have been so focused on losing weight and now we have to focus on making sure our babies are healthy and getting enough from us.

I am far enough out post surgery that I was really worried about this as well, as weight goes on so much easier now adays... I am 35 weeks pregnant and have gained 21 lbs so far.  The doc says that is really ideal, and it is likely most of it will come off super fast once she out of the oven.  I sure hope so.

I guess the part of the story I want to share, is I have been in a LOT of pain the last trimester with the whole loosening of the ligaments and joints and such that happens... it is keeping me way more sedentary then I had planned on being... But I have already decided as soon as I get the go ahead from my doc after the baby is born I am going to join a fitness club with a nursery and get my self in the best shape of my life... for one very spacific reason.  I am already going to be an older first time mommy, at 36, and I am sure there will come a time when her little friends will take note that I am not as young as their mommys are, but I dont want to be the fat mom too... I grew up with a mom I loved and everyone of my friends did too... but she was always self consious of being heavy... and it rubbed off on me to some degree... I dont want that for my own baby... I want her to have a fit mommy who is confident and healthy and there is only  one way I can give her that... and it sounds a lot like a Nike Comercial... IM GONNA JUST DO IT!  I was very close at being the ideal body I had drempt of having, I was fit, and healthy, I guess I still am, in as much as a very prego chic can be, but I want to do this not only for me but for her as well.  Id rather she be embareassed of the crazy shoes I am wearing then my big ol boody!

I am also hoping breast feeding works out to give me a head start in the right direction!

Good luck to all of you!
