I need to whine about mother's day a bit

OK, I don't want to sound petty, and believe me, I love my husband - he is wonderful and so good at helping with Rowan.
That said, my mother's day was a pretty disappointing affair.
I worked all week of course, and then I also worked my 2nd job all day Saturday, but I still found time to go get a present for my own mom. Usually I also get flowers, but I knew my brother was sending some, so I didn't get any since I was so pressed for time. The point is, buying a present for mother's day is pretty well established precendent around our house, which my husband should know as we've been together for 12 years.
I got: a card. Well 2 cards, one from Rowan - signed with his thumbprint (which my husband was able to do only because he saw me sign my mom's card the same way, otherwise he never would have known where to find the ink pad) and one from my husband.
No flowers or anything else. I mean, he was at the grocery store Saturday, he could have picked up some flowers!
And you know, I feel like there's nothing I can do about it now, telling him to find me something meaninful to commemorate my first mother's day just isn't the same as his actually coming to that idea on his own. I would have been perfectly happy with something as simple as a framed picture of Rowan!
I just kept kinda quiet during the "what did you get for mother's day" discussion at daycare this morning.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!

My baby isn't here yet but I kind of thought my hubby would at least say something (I"m due in the next week or so) but nope, I did get a card from a few friends though.

Remember this on father's day! lol

Awww, you need a hug too! *hug*

When I was pregnant, he told me he thought about getting a card, but wasn't sure if it was appropriate

Instead, I got a card from my parents and an e-card from his mom.

Oh I'll remember it on father's day, and hopefully he will as well, when he opens his present.

I forget someone else said that their hubby dropped the ball... my suggestion - BUY everything for a nice dinner and tell him now he just has to cook it himself! lol

Nah, that would still require me to use what little "free" time I have going out and getting the ingredients. I work full time, I take Rowan to and from daycare and then I also stop by and spend lunch with him on MWF. Tuesday and Thursday I use my lunch to run errands, like going shopping for my mom's mother's day present. After Rowan goes to bed I am usually either tidying up, making baby food or baking a cake for someone. I lose an occasional evening or weekend day to my other job as well. I hate dragging Rowan to the grocery store or something after I get him from daycare because by then he is pretty tired and he deserves to be able to just go home. So, I juggle a LOT and I guess I would have liked my husband to maybe use his lunch one day or a little time after work to consider going shopping for me! He's even been mentioning lately that we should go out to dinner, but he hasn't been the one to make the effort to find a sitter and pick a time and place to go...he's waiting for me to do that part.

Awww! I hope he gave you more than the card!
I sort of suspect that the only reason my husband thought to get me a card from Rowan was because I gave him a little valentines card from Rowan!

That is sad. I have learned from therapy though that men really dont think like we do. When my husband does things like this I tell him it has hurt me and let him know how I feel. If not it just ends up hurting me and me being resentful and taking it out on them. So I would say tell him how you feel and maybe next year you will have an awesome one Big Hugs!!

I did mention to him that it is nice to get something to commemorate one's first mother's day or the birth of your first child, but I don't know how much he really "got" it. What kind of makes me sad is that, even if he does something great next year, you only get to have you first mother's day once. Kind of like if he had forgotten out first anniversary!
