Quad test

I had my NT test done and the baby wouldn't hold still long enough to get the pics they need to do the test. So my Dr offered to do a Quad test at my 17 week appointment. Is this test often wrong? We would keep this baby no matter what. So I'm questioning even having this test done...What do you think?

I know of several people personally that have been given false results that their baby had downs. We decided NOT to do the test because this baby is our gift from God no matter what!!

We didn't do any of the screenings either b/c they can be wrong and wouldn't change our opinion.  Also my doctor said you can never really prepare for a problem, you just spend the remander of your pregnancy worrying about it instead of enjoying it.

My OB said it gives a false positive about 25 % of the time.   I refused the testing.  Like you, I would have the baby regardless, so why worry.

I refused the test this time too. I can see why some might choose it though- being blindsided with a baby with problems at delivery is probably a really tough thing to take. I imagine it would be quite devastating. However, with some warning, I think you could be better prepared to handle that. Of course, the fact that they can be wrong is a problem too. It's a tough decision. Good luck though.

The quad screening is a very time sensitive test.  It has to be done within a certain week.  In fact, they modified it slightly in recent years.  I remember it was done at different time in my earlier pregnancies and then with Sydnee and Londyn it was offered in a different time span.  The test results are often wrong, and a lot of it has to do with when it is done.  I had it done with my first 4 pregnancies and #2 came back with an increased chance of a abnormality.  We endured genetic counseling, but never opted for the amnio.  Kaitlyn as born with no chromosomal problems.

I opted out of the testing for Sydnee and Londyn.  Sydnee is awesome and I anticipate Londyn will be too!! =)

Good luck sweets.

Thanks, Holly.  =)

I can't believe it either.  The doc's office scheduled for the 26th, but I think there is some kind of mix up because that doesn't go with the plans they had originally told me.  Hopefully, they will give me some clarification on Weds when I go for my appt.

How are you doing?

Hugs

I have chosen NOT to have this screening with both of my pregnancies. It does not necessarily give a positive or negative. I had a very good friend who's screen came back with a 75% chance of having Down's (it give you a percentage). She prepared herself & stressed the whole pregnancy & the baby was completely fine. I think if they could give me a definitive yes or no, I would consider it just to prepare myself, but I'm like you I'm keeping my baby no matter what. Whatever you chose, I hope everything is great : )

I am like you - we would keep the baby no matter what :) I had it done with Bailey, because honestly I didn't really know that I couldn't... but I didn't do it with Isabella or this time around with Carter :)

How are you feeling?? :)
