When to see an infertility specialist or not

We miscarried Nov. 2009 and were given the go ahead to TTC as soon as my next cycle came along. It has been grueling to say the least. My cycles are ranging from 28 days to way over 45 and still not even sure i'm ovulating. We're using an ovulation calculator (give or take a few days), OPK's, checking CM, BD'ing every other day and continually getting BFN's! I'll be 35 in June! Should I see someone at this point?

Thanks,
Cathie

I saw an RE after 10 months of trying at only 22 year olds. When you are ready to have a baby you know it and if you feel like its time to seek professional help for assistance- go for it, theres no harm in seeing what they have to say!

Good luck to you!

If I were in your shoes, I would have already gone!  Ten months of trying is tedious, especially with all the charting, etc.  Plus, when you have it in the back of your head that "this could be the time"... it just gets frustrating and seems like more of a chore after a while.

I went to see my OB/GYN last June, and when I told her that we were going to start trying in a few months, she said, "If you don't get pregnant in 6 months, come see me again and we'll see what we can do about that."

I'm 31 years old and my husband is 36.  We're not getting any younger, either!  I say go for it... only good things can come from your experience.

Cathie,
I would go to a RE. I feel better since I have been going to mine. They are way more proactive than my regular OB. I wish you all the luck in the world. Keep us posted.

My OB sent me after after six months of charting. She didn't want to do any testing dunce the RE would do more. So, we went to him and I was 34 and hubby was 35. My RE was very proactive. I think you know my experience over the year of going to him.

The best part is they monitor you early in pregnancy with progesterone and ultrasounds!

Hi Cathie,

I was in a very similar boat as you.  I miscarried twins 4 years ago...  I turned 35 in January, and had been trying for 8+ months, and it just wasn't happening.  I finally just decided to see a reproductive endocrinologist.  And it's a good think I did.  The initial tests showed that the miscarriage severley scarred my cervix and I am unable to naturally get pregnant.  I am now starting an IVF cycle..    The Dr is fast tracking me through this, due to my age.  So my honest opinion is to not wait any longer.  Check out you insurance and find a clinic near you.

Good luck,

I'm sorry for your loss.  I miscarried in Sept. 09 and bled daily for 2 months before they finally decided to do a D and C.  I haven't ovulated since.  I decided in January to see a RE (reproductive endro), mainly due to the fact that I turned 41 in Oct.  They've done every test possible and tell me everything is perfect except for the fact that I'm not ovulating.  I am starting my first round of Clomid this week and am hoping for the best.  Point being:  I wouldn't wait.  Most insurance covers the evaluative process.  Wishing you the best.
