My Birth Story (04.24.10)
On April 24th 2010 @ 10:07 PM I gave birth and now my world has changed!
DH and I were scheduled to move from a 1 bedroom apartment in the city to a 3 bedroom in the burbs. I had been having BH contractions and noticed softer stools throughout the whole week. On April 23rd Dh and I did about loads of laundry and took it to our new home. We got back to the city and at midnight DH looked at me and said "Baby, we did it!" He is still baking and gave me a big kiss". About an hour later at 1:00 AM I was woke up with a very sharp pain. I brushed it off and laid back down. I got up about 30 minutes later because that pain started becoming more frequent and lasting longer. I had an urge to go to the bathroom and when I wiped myself I saw my mucus plug in all its boogery glory (lol)I screamed and told DH to get his ass out the bed and come to the bathroom. I showed him and he was like woah! I wiped myself again and had blood on the tissue and we both looked at each other and new i was show time. I tried to lay down for a bit longer but the contractions increased in frequency and pain. We grabbed my bag (thank god we didn't take it to the new place) and headed to the hospital. We got to L&D and they checked me. I was at 1.5 Cm. They told me I was a first time mom and that these were BH. They had me on the monitors (which were picking up some contractions but not all)I was having alot in my back. I was damn near delirious in pain and was about to act a damn fool and refuse to go home because I new these were not BH. The nurse came in to speak to me and the nex thing I new I started vomiting and dry heaving (mind you I am also asthmatic) I got up and my bowels started loosening. I barely made it to the bathroom. She got worried and the Resident came in and saw me, when I got out the bathroom she checked me and I was at 3 CM. She said it looks like you Are in labor and staying. This was about 5:00 AM. They got me to a room and started and IV. I was trying my best to stay calm but the pain was so intense I could not focus. I got REAL nasty with DH (LOL) They gave me some Stadol (sp?) they said this would "take the edge off" ... all I have to say to that is "yeah ******g right", it made me groggy and I still felt every single contraction. I got another dose at about 11: 00 AM and still no good relief. I was begging for the epidural by this time, she told I could not receive one until I was 4 CM, I told her to check me and she did. I was at 3.5. I was so feisty she called the anesthesiologist and by the time they got there around 2:15 I was at 5 CM. They got started on the epidural at 2L45 and were done by 3:10. Whoever came up with this drug is a ******G GENIUS. Once I received it and it kicked in I was mellow and smooth sailing. My mom and MIL got to my room about 3:45PM. The OB came in, checked me and recommended Pitocin. I didn't give a damn. I was eating popsicles, ice chips and no longer in PAIN. They came in and broke my water at 4:30 to see if it would progress naturally first. Once they broke my water they saw meconium. They explained to me that for precautions there would be 2 different teams at the babys crib side post delievery to make sure he didnt inhale any of it and was ok. No progression with the breaking my water. They started me on the Pitocin and I was complete and at a 10 in no time. I pushed for 27 minutes (which surprised everyone being a FTM) and at 10:07 PM my son came in the world. I witnessed his birth through a mirror and was able to touch his head while he was coming out. He came out grey and meowing like a kitten (not a good enough cry) They said he Apgars were still a 7 and an 8. They worked on getting him to cry stronger for about 3 minutes and finally he did but it was not the cry the DR's were satisfied with.. oh I forgot to mention that his cord was wrapped around his neck (they did not have to cut it off, just unraveled it). I did not get to hold him until he was 40 minutes old. His breathing was a bit labored so he went to the NICU for a day and a half and then a transitional nursery. He did not get to come home when I was released, he came home a day later. That was VERY hard for me. I was boo-hooing and couldnt pull myself together although I knew it was for his good. His nursery furniture was delivered on the say of my discharge (smile) and he was able to come home to a beautiful room while DH and I slept on the floor (lol) We finally got the movers to come today and we now have our bed. My son is doing awesome! Great eater, pooper, and burper! I am so happy to have him home. I am just getting used to being a mommy and taking it easy (which is hard to do) I drove the day I got released and spent time with him in the nursery. I dont have my internet connected at my new home yet and will post more and pics later! Oh my son weighed 6lbs and 6 and a half ounced and measured at 19.2 inches.
Happy Baking To You All,
Jazz
