Hey everyone, I know our surgeons usually suggest to wait a year (or at least mine did). But... I was just wondering if anyone did before then? I am not pregnant..just wondering. :D

Thanks,

Madison

We have one VSGer who has had her son, I'm not sure how long post op she got pg though.  We also have Sephia, mother of 7, pregnant with her 8th who does unassisted home birth.  I'm sure she'll jump in and answer your questions.

I went to Dr. A too and I told him we were TTC (told him right after I was a year out) and that we started trying before a year but I wouldn't say how long so he wouldn't get mad.  He just wished me luck and to let him know if we are successful :)

I'm sure I'll be jumped on but I say go for it!  I stopped using condoms at the end of August (I O around the end of the month, AF comes mid month), so 7 months out.  I started really trying (OPKs) end of September.  Still no luck yet, so I'm glad we started early.  I got within 1.6 lbs of goal and have since put about 8-10 lbs back on - because of Xmas, not exercising and then just eating like I was pg, in case I was pg (upped my carbs and they weren't good ones either).  Starting next week, I'm going back low carb, exercising more and really being careful.  I want to get to goal (normal BMI) at least.  Lower than that won't be possible until I have plastic surgery (I probably have about 10-15 lbs just in my abdomen, my legs look like sticks in comparison!) and I won't do PS until I have a baby, or decide that I'm giving up on having a baby.

I have a VSG too. My doc told me to wait a year. It will be a year July 31st. We will start trying August 1st. I can't wait. I am so tempted to start early but I have more I want to lose first. I am getting ready though. I found my OBGYN, had my prenatal testing done, started my prenatal vitamin regimen, finishing my last pack of pills in 10 days. After that it is a waiting game until August. So tempted to try now though! Patience is a virtue!

Wow...already saw your OBGYN! You're on top of your game. I should do that too! :D
Thanks for your post!

Yep, we literally accidentally got pregnant before that year mark.

I've had my bloodwork done and have had some shadow OB care. This baby is a little smaller than my other ones it seems, but only birth will really reveal baby's weight. I'm just measuring "normal" where as in my past pregnancies I was always 3-4cm larger than weeks. Of course that would also be from being overweight with those pregnancies too, yk?!

My BP is great, I refused the GTT like I have in the past since the majority of the GTT I took in my earlier pregnancies were all normal. Having lost 130# would probably not change things in that area.

I was more upset I wasn't able to get to my goal weight before getting pregnant. I am around 50lbs away from that goal, but probably a lot closer to it if I wasn't pregnant or gave birth right now, yk?!

When I got pregnant I called my bariatric doctor first. They were very unconcerned and basically told me they would only start to worry if I couldn't keep any food down, aka severe morning sickness.

I did have to stop my antacids as I was on Rx for that and I had to switch to Tums. I thought I'd have to be eating them every day, but really it has gone down so much to MAYBE once a week or less now.

Since I was about 6mo post op when I got pregnant I was still in the "honeymoon" phase and still losing weight. I lost an additional 17 lbs (finally got below 200, reached 195) before I began to maintain my weight for a good 3-4 months. Now I am very, very, very slowly gaining weight. I am in the 3rd trimester now (home stretch) and am only up 6-7 lbs from my lowest weight reached. I hover between 202 & 203 most days. I have not been a scale ***** lately either. I check maybe once a week or twice a week compared to several times a day, like I used to. LOL

I have between 9-12 weeks before I give birth now, and I am very satisfied with my weight gain/loss, etc.

I haven't had any complications. I see you are close to your goal weight though too. You might start inquiring about the possibilities to TTC sooner if you reach your goal weight.

I know personally I was not mentally or emotionally ready to be pregnant as I was very much focused on myself and my weight loss and journey to a healthier me. It's been very difficult to change gears from weight focus to baby focus. VERY difficult for me.

So right now I seem to be the resident VSG pregnant woman. I do feel left out being different from most here, especially given I have a different surgery, different philosophy on birth, and probably different in the fact I may have the most experience on here as well, with this being technically my 9th (I m/c my previous baby, months before I had my VSG).

If you've got questions though, I can try and help answer them, the best I can.

Thanks so much for your reply!

So I'm basically 6 months out. I have lost 111 lbs with only 3 more lbs to be "normal". My personal goal is still 13lbs away.

I am using the nuva ring. But the hubby and I have discussed it and after this month I have no plans off continuing birth control.

I have a son, almost 3, and really want another child. One reason I wanted the VSG was so that in my next pregnancy I would be much healthier. Now, my habits are a 180 from what they were. I'm confident that I will do everything I should.

So...even though it hasnt been 1 year... after this month no more birth control. Of course, I've been on BC for 2 1/2 years so the liklihood of me getting pregnant immediately is not high. So.. it might end up being 1 year or even longer..who knows.

My previous OBGYN is no longer in practice. Think I should go ahead and have a visit that way they can tell me what vitamins I should be taking?

I'm am 5 months post VSG & 9 wks pregnant (by surprise). I have 3 yr old twins conceived with the help of a fertility specialist. We were told that we couldn't conceive on our own due to a mucous incompatibility. So, we haven't used protection for the 6 yrs we've been married, BUT only 4 months post-op, I found out that I was pregnant. I was shocked, scared, & excited all @ the same time. Everyone makes such a big deal about the waiting a year thing. So, I was freaking out about the babies' health. My surgeon was very calm about it. He said...Well, you don't have the malabsorption factor. So, you shouldn't have any problems.  Just eat small, frequent, healthy meals. I was 5lbs away from my weight loss goal. I'm still early in my pregnancy, but things are going great. I definitely wanted more babies. So, I am starting to embrace this pregnancy. Especially now that I've been reassured by my doctors that everything will be fine. I'm not saying this is the ideal situation, but it is "do-able" : ) I wish you the very best on your journey TTC !!!
