Measuring BIG what in the world does this mean??
Well ladies I had my regular check up yesterday and I am 24 weeks and 2 days. The first thing we did was listen for the heart beat, found that with no problem. It was 133 to start with then she moved to the other side and pushed a little harder and it went up to 145, said I may have an angry one on my hand. LOL Then she went on to measure my uterus... and she said it is measuring around 30 weeks. We know the dates are correct because I have had 3 ultrasounds (my last one at 18 weeks) and they all show the same fetal age, however now all of the sudden I am measuring all BIG. I have gained a total of 4 pounds, so I am not putting on a ton of weight!
Has anyone else had this happen? Anyone know what it means? Extra fluids?? Big BaBy? My daughter was 6 lbs 3 ozs., I am terrified of having a HUGE baby! GOODNESS! The doctor wants to see me back in 2 weeks to remeasure and recheck everything!

My baby is measuring really big too (not sure about my uterus measurments). Did they send you for a gestational diabetes test? Mine came back negative (YAY!!!) They told me to go right away because Rory was measuring above the 90th percentile and I had some extra fluid. Big babies just run in my family so I am not too concerned. Also, they can be off in their measurments. Oh, and another question...is it the same person measuring you every time? That can make a difference. Some people measure differently than others.

With my last one, my OB "accused" me of having an elephant pregnancy because I was measuring like 50 weeks and I was maybe 30 at the time. He chucked the measuring tape on the counter and said he wasn't measuring me anymore cuz it was pointless......lol I DID have extra amniotic fluid with him (not 20 extra weeks worth....LOL) and I was 450 abouts when I delivered him so that may have had something to do with it. But he had me cracking up about the elephant pregnancy and when he chucked the measuring tape on the counter.
But, you could have extra amniotic fluid, every Dr. measures a little different. Personally, I think the measurements are pointless. The u/s is a much better judge of how your baby is growing. I think the measuring tape is just an antiquated carryover from the pre-ultrasound era. My current OB never measures me. The one time I saw the PA, she did, but never my OB. He just feels the top of the uterus to see if it's about where it should be....20 weeks - belly button level....30 weeks - halfway between belly button and end of rib cage.....yada yada. I think that's just a guage for them and if your uterus feels like it's where it's not supposed to be, then they do an u/s and check.
Honestly, I wouldn't get worked up about it if you're sure about your dates. As long as that ultrasound shows baby measuring on target and normal fluid levels, you're fine. You may just have a uterus that is floating up higher than some. Could be the way the baby is positioned and that it's stretching your uterus more vertically than horizontally. My 1st and 4th did that. They were always EXTREMELY vertical and I felt every moment of it in my ribcage and lungs! LOL My uterus is worn out now after 4 and is hanging pretty low so I'm not showing like I did with my others. Plus this baby lays very horizontally and EXTREMELY low. She probably doesn't have a choice with my lazy uterus.....lol But I wouldn't worry until they see something definitive to worry about. It doesn't mean huge baby. If it did, my 4th would've weighed 16 pounds! lol A regular pacaderm. lol
