DH and I have 99% decided on the name Sage for our little girl.  We haven't told any family or friends because we want it to be a surprise.  That being said we are not 100%, we still want to see her then pick her name.

I started looking at info on the name and didn't realize it's a boys name also.  I never wanted to use a unisex name for either gender.  To me, the name Sage is VERY feminine, girly and cute.  An alternate spelling of the name Sage, is Saige, like the girls name Paige.  DH and I like it spelled Sage, but it seems a lot of the female spelling has an "i" in it.  I HATE when people try and get creative with the spelling of simple names, and adds and subtracts letter where it doesn't even look like the original name anymore.

So I guess I have 2 questions.  Which spelling do you like better for a girl- Sage or Saige?

And does this name sound masculine at all to you?  To me it's a girls name, but what do you think when you hear it??

Thanks

Karen :)

I like it spelled Saige.  I don't think masculine name at all.  Personally, I have never heard a boy named Sage.

The only reason I think of it being masculine is because I have a coworker who has a grandson named Sage.  I like either spelling but I do think with the i in it seems a little more feminine but that may be just because I know someone with it spelled the other way that is a boy.

I LOVE the name for a girl or a boy... and I think the spelling is fine either way. Dang, i am no help! LOL

I think it's a beautiful name.

When I think of the name sage i think of a girls name first but then think it would be good as a boys name as well. My first reaction though was girl....

with that being said and me being no help at all my name is Jaime which is usually spelled Jamie...

I am Jaime my husband is Kerry.

Both names could go either way... LOL

Hi Karen!  I know 2 boys named Sage, but I don't think of it as being masculine or feminine.  I do think Saige looks more girly than Sage.  I love the name!  Not sure if this has helped you at all!

I like it spelt Saige and I think it sounds like a girl name but it would also be cute as a boy name in my opinion.

I'm with you on the unisex and traditional spellings of names. That being said I like Sage for a girl but have never heard of it for a boy!

I really like the name Sage. I've never known anyone with the name- it definitely sounds more feminine to me. However I want to name my baby Micah if it's a girl- that's one of the unisex names. I think that if it's what you like and feel to be appropriate go for it! I do agree with the other ladies however and I think that Saige seems to be a more feminine spelling.

My friend just named her boy Sage and I thought it sounded like a girls name.
I like the spelling Saige better.
