Surgeon an OB disagreeing!?
OK, I talked with the OB and he said for me to basically follow the gestational diabetes diet and that there was no reason I needed to gain weight and could even lose a few but not for me to actually be trying to. My surgeon says no, that this is too early out for the starchy carbs and to stick to 3 small meals of meat and veggies and then if I am hungry in between I can have fruit with some protein like a cheese stick but no whole grain breads, pasta, milk, etc. I don't know but from the sounds of it I think the OB has the right idea since a few of you guys have mentioned upping my carbs and from what I have seen of the gestational diabetes diet it is more whole foods than processed foods. I know I won't be able to meet my calorie goals at least not for a while but I could do a scaled down version is what I am thinking. Opinions?
most importantly is to stay out of ketosis.... they actually sell strips that you can test my mouth if you are unsure of what to do... i would think your surgeon is more worried, not that you shouldnt eat the starchy carbs but at 2 months out you just might not be able to. at 2 months out i would have trouble keeping even proteins down. i think at about 5 months i was able to start adding starchy carbs back without getting ill. maybe start with some crackers with evey meal... i think it really depends on what you can tollerate
