To get pregnant or not to get pregnant......that is the question????

Hello everyone,
I will be three years out on 5/7/2010.  I started @255 and now am @153.  I am married with one daughter who will be 6 on May 18.  My husband and I have been talking about another child. The only thing holding me back is the potential for any type of weight gain. This scares the crap out of me. I have heard that a healthy weight gain after surgery is about 10-15 pds, that amount to me is so much. Can anybody tell me if they have gotten pregnant a few years after the surgery and hows was the weight gain. I think I am going to make an appointment with Doc Pupkova to talk to her about this. I could always go to the gym during the pregnancy and walk on the treadmill, but this is easier said then done. My friends say that if the weight gain is that much of a concern then I will make it happen.  I really don't know what to do.  My 6 year old is soooo lonely. I think my husband really wants another but doesn't want to push the issue.  I need advice. I'm stuck!!!

Hey - a local person! I had my surgery at Barix in Langhorne too - Dr P is awesome, she's the surgeon of several of my closest friends.

I am 3 1/2 years out with RNY and almost 36 weeks - I've gained 16 pounds so far.

Good luck! Remember you're tool will still be there after you have the baby you just have to work it.

It really sounds like you need to deal with issues regarding your body image before trying to conceive.

Almost all of us will have issues with our eating and body image for the rest of our lives BUT our issues should take a "back seat" when we are trying to conceive, when we do, and after.

Our bodies need only 300 extra calories per day for pregnancy - that could be 2 glasses of milk a yogurt , and fruit.  It is not like back in the day where people were told and said to themselves "eat for two" and "kickback in the bed all day long".  We need to eat healthy whole foods, reasonable portions and exercise.

Good luck to you.

Best,
Leila

People who have never had weight issues are concerned with weight gain during pregnacy. So it is magnified 10X more with us. Im not sure where u are coming form with the issues regarding body image. Im not wrong for being concerned about gaining weight during pregnancy. I have worked to hard and come to far not to be concerned with gaining weight during any situation.

Thanks for your advise, though!!!

Not concerned to your extent!!!  You posted, I replied.  It would help for you to speak to someone on an ongoing basis about your issues.  A 10 to 15 pound weight gain is too much for a pregnancy - kinda sick when you are trying to grow a healthy baby.

Thanks for your coment though!!!

All my resource material says a 15-25 pound gain is fine.

Honestly, I think if you're not ready to face the possibility of gaining 25 pounds you might not be ready to get pregnant.

I have to say I agree with the pp's.  If your too worried about gaining 10-25 lbs for a healthy baby then your not ready yet.  Maybe you haven't enjoyed your newly thin body long enough.  I would take a little more time and really make 100% sure that you can handle the gain.  Because being pregnant you are going to gain weight as you aren't supposed to diet to have a healthy baby.  A healthy baby is the top priority.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.
