Just a few questions regarding getting pregnant post op.

i just went off my BC and was wondering if any other woman did also, how long did it take to conceive? much easier to get preg post op? How far out form your surg did you get preg or start trying? complications? any shared stories and experiences are greatly appreciated.

I am 17 months out and my weight has stabilized at 178 at 5'8. No complications from surgery and my labs were all good at my one year follow up.

Thanks so much :)
Katie

Hi. Welcome!

I don't know what form of BC you were using, but I had a Mirena IUD and got it taken it out Sept. 29th. We weren't "trying" to get pregnant, but weren't doing anything to prevent it either. I had my first regular period Oct 23rd. I am guessing I got pregnant on Feb 17th.

I had my RNY Aug 2005. I lost 100 pounds (my goal) in about 10 months and have kept it off since. I figure I eat about like a "normal" sized person now. My OB/GYN expects no complications. And the pregnancy has been going fine so far. (knock on wood).

Good luck!!!

I was on the pill for 10 years. I went off and we charted on our own for 6 months. Went to RE and did three rounds of IUI with medication and got pregnant. We had a miscarriage. Waited a month, then did another IUI that was unsuccessful. We took the next month off due to me traveling. We got pregnant on our own that month. It was ectopic. Then, that was over. We got pregnant the month we were waiting for our next round of IUI. So, you can see I am 21 weeks right now.

Everyone is different.

Best of luck!!!

Got pregnant on the 4th cycle off BC.  I was on it for about 6 years prior to that.

I went off the pill, waited the month we were told to and got preggers the next month. I miscarried at 6 weeks and had thyroid problems that hat to get fixed. We got that fixed and got the clearance to try again and was preggers the first month after again. i am 15 weeks and all is going great!

I got pregnant 7 months post op. We weren't trying, but I wasn't on BC. I know there are lots of ladies out there who would yell at me for that, but that's OK, yell away. I ended up having a miscarriage at about 6 weeks (this was my 2nd m/c, the first was before surgery). I conceived again a little more than a year post op. This was the first month we were actively trying. This little bean has stuck in there. I had PCOS prior to surgery and had a difficult time getting pregnant and staying pregnant. I got the RNY mostly so I could have a better chance of having a baby and it seems to be working. I wish you so much luck as you TTC. I know some people say it could take a couple months to conceive after coming off of BC, but for some people it's right away.
