OB Update!

So I am 38 weeks 5 days today.

The good news is I do not have preeclampsia!  There was some protein and some other things in my urine but he assured me it was nothing to worry about at this point.  My feet are only a tiny bit swollen and my BP was perfect today.

My OB's office does not do routine checks anymore basically because they said it's kind of pointless.  When you're 36 weeks you're full term so it is what it is.  But I asked if he would check me since I've been having contractions for days now.  Nothing timable but pretty painful.  I am also losing my plug gradually.  Before he checked me he told me "my wife walked around for 3 weeks 3 centimeters dilated, and I've seen people completely tight and closed go into labor the next day, so it really does not matter, your body could decide to go into labor at any time."  He also said the fact that I've been contracting for days is good because it's less work my body has to do later.

As soon as he checked me he goes "Woah there's the head" but I am not dilated yet, but he did say my cervix is thinning and soft.  Didn't give me a percent or anything.  He said when the contractions come at about 5-7 minutes apart or my water breaks, come in.  Otherwise we wait.  I am SO bad at being patient.  I cannot wait to have my baby girl here but I guess for now I will just relax knowing my health and the baby's health is just fine.  Thanks ladies for all the thoughts.  Everything is ready for my LO's arrival and only 10 days until I'm due!!

I hate waiting for the unknown myself - but this is one situation we have ZERO control over!

Thanks Liz!  My life as an oober control freak means nothing as far as going into labor is concerned LOL.

That is good that the baby's head is right there. The closer it is, the less pushing needed.
I am glad you don't have preeclampsia too, that's good. Can't wait to hear how your birth went and see pics of your baby, it won't be long!!

I agree with your doctor.... I had an appt the Friday before I went into labor and I was locked up as tight as Ft Knox according to the OB with no thinning, no dilation, no loss of plug...nada...I was just shy of 37 weeks. Next day I started feeling weird and gradually day by day contractions increased and lost my entire plug Wed Morning and went to hospital to be told I was only 1 cm....but they let me stay a bit and sure enough on my own I progressed and Emad was born at 1240am that night/morning.....so it could change quickly....good luck to you!

Glad everything is progressing as it should. I think once we get to 37 weeks, we are just done and tired of being pregnant and want mother nature to hurry up!! I know I am!

I got the same report as you at my appt. yesterday...baby's head is right there, cervix is definitely thinning and soft, but no dialation. I'm scheduled for a csection on the 29th...so I'm a little bummed that my body is preparing for delivery but I won't be able to experience it...unless something crazy happens before the 29th!

At any rate, hope the next 10 days go by quickly for you! Labor dust to you!
