Weight gain during pregnancy

I'm wondering what is the average weight gain during pregnancy, on this board.
I'm asking because I'm a little worried. I'm 17 weeks today and as of 2 weeks ago I haven't gained much, probably 2 or 3 pounds.  But this morning I weighed myself and I gained another 5-6 lbs since Easter!!!
I know that I have been craving foods that I wasn't even eating anymore or very little of like chips and candy.  I know it was a bad choice, so today I have decided that I would not buy another bag of chips for the rest of my pregnancy (if I can help it).
And that I was going to eat better from now on.  I have found that it's quite hard not to listen to my cravings and God knows how much I've been having them lately!!!

I really feel bloated or as if I've gained too much, which is the reason why I'm asking you all, how much weight you've all gained (if you remember) at your first trimester.  And altogether as well.
And I would like to know your opinion as well.....do you think that at 17 weeks of pregnancy a weight gain of 8 lbs is too much?

My husband doesn't want me to "diet"....he wants me to eat right, but he's worried that I would make this an obsession and go overboard.  Which would effectively not be good for the baby.

Thanks for your help!

WEll I had the opposite problem - I couldn't look at food my first tri so I lost 15 pounds. Gained it back in the second and am now up a total of 14 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight at almost 35 weeks. I watch what I eat too but I was told 1500-1800 calories, 100grams of carbs and 90 grams of protein so that's what I am trying to stick to. I think that you are right on track. There are weeks I Didn't gain anything and weeks I gained 4 pounds.

Good luck!

I felt really bloated when I first "popped".  I think it's just...feels weird to get bigger, you know?  (I felt SO gross and I had only gained four pounds at the time.)

I'm with your husband though: you should not diet right now.  Everything I've ever read online says pregnancy is not a time for dieting.  Eat mindfully but don't diet.  Protein, veggies, fruit, good carbs.

Don't freak out about weight gain.  Your job is to just make sure the baby is developing well!

Everyone is different. You have to eat what the baby needs and worry right now about the baby. Then, you can focus on weight loss after the baby. It depends how far out from surgery you are, what weight you are starting at, etc. So, you can't compare yourself to others.

By 17-19 weeks, they say the "normal" weight gain is 10 pounds! I decided I wasn't going to focus on my weight. I am not like some on the board that lost 15 pounds the first trimester. So, I am going to focus on a healthy pregnancy and when the doctor says something, I will worry. I do what I can but I retain a lot of water and have issues with constipation. So, my weight fluctuates too much that if I weighted everyday, I would drive myself insane!

Around 10 pounds is what I was told is normal for the first trimester.  I was right on that target.  Second trimester kicked in and I gained a few more real quick.  Just went to the doc on Friday and at 25 weeks I am up 18 pounds. I started at 123 pounds.

Hope that helps.

I was 9 months post-op when I found out I was pregnant. I didn't gain any weight the first 20 wks (I had bad morning sickness) now in the last 8-10wks I have gained 21 lbs. OMG!!! 21 lbs and still have less then 10 wks to go.  I will be having a c-section in June (my actual due date is June 25th). I had an ultrasound last monday and they estimated the baby weighing 3lbs. 9ozs. WOW!!!! So all pregnancies are different just eat healthy for the baby, thats what my sister keeps telling me (she actually thought I was starving myself cause I didn't want to gain weight). She just didn't understand the morning sickness (I could only eat Fruity Pebbles Nov-Feb. everything else made me sick  Now I can't eat fruity pebbles) and all my LABs are LOW I've had to have 4 IV-Iron Infusions another one scheduled for May 5th.  I don't get in enough PROTEIN nor the 64oz fluids daily....I've had severe constipation up til 1 1/2 wks ago.  It's just been bad but these last 2wks I've been feeling better, thank god.

Every pregnancy is different, with my first child prior to my surgery, I lost a total of 35 pounds and gained 15 back...When I found out I was pregnant my dr told me that he expected since I was at a healthy weight that I should gain between 25 and 35 pounds with this baby. I am currently 33 weeks, and I have gained 21 pounds.  Also keep in mind you will gain more weight the closer to the time that the baby is born because that is when the baby will start putting on the weight. I started to worry that I was gaining to much weight which started to freak me out, but during my last ultra sound at 26 weeks my dr informed me that the baby was already measuring at 1.5 lbs so most of the weight that I have gained was baby.

I would say thats not to much weight to gain during that time. I am in the same boat you are with the junk food cravings and I have been told by my nutrionist that as long as its not accessive eating to eat what I am craving because its something that your body feels like I need.

If you get concerned check in with the nutriionist that you were seeing prior to your surgery.
