One of my coworkers is over 40 and just had her "pleasant surprise" last week. She had to go on bedrest about 6 weeks before she was due because of PIH but that happened with me with my first child and I wasn't anywhere near 40 so it could happen to anyone. Mom and baby are both healthy so try not to let your age freak you out.
As for the band, I only got an unfill because I was having severe nausea. As long as you are comfortable with the amounts you are able to eat (no issues with getting stuck, able to eat solid protein, etc) then there's no need for an unfill.
Best wishes to you!

Congratulations on your surprise pregnancy! I have the band and have been able to keep my current fill so far. I have about 6 cc's in a 10 cc band. There are days where it's tighter than others but overall it's been pretty good. I didn't have too much morning sickness though which many people do and if you do, then you might need an unfill of at least some fluid. Hope everything goes well.
I am an RNY patient not a lapbander but just wanted to say Congrats! I will be 39 this month and pg with my first (actually second child but the first is adopted!) Never thought this would ever happen to me. I had given up on the idea years ago but here I am and it took very little effort to get here thank goodness! Had been a breeze for me...no "mrning sickness" just the occassional food aversion and a time or two something getting stuck but that woulda happened pg or not.
Vitamans, vitamans, vitamans...you may also want to schedule something with your surgeon just to cover all bases.

Don't have any advice on the LB since I'm an RNY'er but wanted to say a HUGE Congrats! I'll be 42 when this baby is born in early Sept. Being pregnant at 40 isn't all that much different than being pg at 29 and don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise! God made women to have babies and 70 years ago, it was considered completely normal and acceptable and even expected for women to be pg at 40!
Congratulations! I was pregnant at 44 for the first time with the help of IVF, very healthy pregnancy, worked until the day before he was born, and had a perfect baby when I was 45. Pregnant again at 46 and this baby seems very healthy, too. A little rougher pregnancy but it's not age-related. She'll arrive when I'm 47. And yes, we're done. Just do what you would do if you were in your 20s--eat healthy, exercise moderately, drink your water, get lots of rest, take your vitamins, go to all your prenatal appointments, and try not to worry.
