Possible low blood sugar

Ok.

So I was standing in line at Bealls on Friday after doing some fast bathing suit shopping and fitting. All of the sudden I got weak and my eyes went black, I couldn't see anything. I luckily was with a friend who got me to a chair before I passed out. The feeling was very similiar to when I stand up too fast and my blood pressure drops. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

I've also noticed that sometimes I get a little shaky and feel weak, I'm assuming this is also blood sugar related. I am 16 weeks pregnant and just worried that this could affect the baby. I'm just wondering what could be causing this- I'm assuming that I shouldn't go long between meals. I would appreciate any advice- worried. Thanks!

it's possible.  I started getting low blood sugar at about a year post op.  The first few times I had NO idea what was going on.  usually I get blurry vision, slurred speech, i get BOILING hot, sweating, chills and sometimes I get very hungry instantly.  This is when my sugars are very low though.  It wouldn't hurt to get a meter and read your sugars next time it happens.

That being said, if it is your sugar you would not be able to function again unless you ate something to bring your levels back up.  It will not get better without food. As long as your sugar doesn't drop for a long period of time your baby will be fine.  That is as soon as you notice your sugar is low, get it up with food or a glucose tablet it should be OK.

i would also check and see what your normal blood pressure is.... i have constant low blood pressure (even when i was heavy) my low blood pressure can make me light headed sometimes and even black out. It usually only happens when i move too quick or bend down and up too fast. I am used to it as i have had it my whole life but it is definatly worse pregnant. the only possitive is no salt worries ;) in fact eating the salt acctually can help to elevte your blood presure but not so much in the water retention dept.

The eyes going black- that definitely happens to me with blood sugar. I've had it happen a few times the last few weeks. The first time I went in to see the OB that afternoon because I was driving and it really freaked me out. It's happened since. But Now I try to recognize the feeling. I get a strange "Something is wrong here" that makes me feel really anxious and skittish. I eat something at that point, and usually feel better. Sometimes I have to sit down for a few minutes, but other than that I usually do fine. good luck.

Thanks so much- this has made me feel better. I will make sure to keep snacks with me and try to avoid letting my sugar drop!  It really is a horrible feeling!
